The CERC NEST employs a transdisciplinary and comparative approach, working with communities and city actors in Toronto and internationally, to examine how urban sustainability transitions can foster inclusive decision‑making, address regulatory and investment inequities, and ensure a fair distribution of benefits and protection from harms. Qualifications: Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Statistics, or a related area (such as Computer Science, Data Science, Quantitative Social Science, Sociology, Economics, Epidemiology, etc.) by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Candidates in all areas of applied statistics will be considered, although candidates are expected to have established strengths in spatial statistics and/or applied machine learning. Grounded in the CERC‑NEST goal of connecting statistics with knowledge co‑production, this hire will have an existing or emerging substantive research agenda related to socio‑environmental challenges of equity in urban sustainability transitions, consistent with the vision, objectives and outcomes of the CERC NEST ( ). Teaching: The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to contribute to an undergraduate curriculum in statistics, which may be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments and experience, and endorsement from referees. We seek exceptional candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths and dovetail with the CERC NEST strengths. The successful candidate will be expected to mount independent and innovative research, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Research Excellence: Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research, which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top‑ranked and field‑relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of top international stature.
