Overview Your Opportunity: The CPTFP is an interprovincial (Alberta and Manitoba) program established in 1996 to complete developmental assessments for young children after life-saving procedures done at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. The purposes of these assessments are: to provide developmental care as needed to the children; to support quality improvement by identifying modifiable factors from acute care variables that relate to outcomes and to advocate for change; and to coordinate knowledge translation projects with multiple collaborators, present results of outcomes research, and educate stakeholders both locally and internationally. The CNS promotes excellence in nursing through the integration of advanced nursing practice domains (clinician, leader, researcher and educator) in childhood development, specifically related to children under age 6 years undergoing complex therapies such as ECMO, ventricular assist device therapy, septic shock therapies, post-cardiac-arrest therapies, and heart and kidney transplantation. As an advanced nursing practice role, the CPTFP CNS brings value to children, families and to the healthcare and rehabilitation team, with the potential to improve long-term developmental outcomes, promote positive health outcomes, reduce secondary developmental illnesses and raise the profile of the CPTFP. Position Description As a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), you will provide an advanced level of nursing practice that maximizes the application of in-depth nursing theory, knowledge and skills in meeting the complex health care needs of individuals, families and communities. You will function as a nursing practice leader, consultant, expert practitioner, educator and researcher within a clinical specialty area. You will balance various roles depending upon the needs of the patient population and the healthcare team, collaborating on the provision of holistic and comprehensive care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient- and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
