Overview The Forensic Assessment Outpatient Service provides clinical forensic mental health services to families and individuals involved in the justice system. The client population includes complex forensic and mental health issues, which may involve domestic or sexual violence offences and other criminal code convictions. Responsibilities Conduct clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up for clients and their families. Deliver treatment and counselling to legally mandated adults. Engage clients and families in psychosocial interventions tailored to offending behaviours and convictions. Provide education strategies to reduce risk behaviours and prevent re‑offending. Screen for acute or sub‑acute mental illness and facilitate access to psychiatric services. Offer therapeutic interventions, including individual psychotherapy, group therapy, CBT, DBT, family therapy, and other endorsed forms of therapy as appropriate. Maintain liaisons with external justice agencies and professionals. Collaborate with other health care and community service providers to ensure continuum of care. Required Qualifications Completion of a master’s degree in a health‑related field. Eligibility or active registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college. Additional Required Qualifications Master’s degree in social work or psychology (or a related discipline, such as nursing with a mental health specialization). Full registration/licensure with one of the following organizations: Alberta College of Social Workers, College of Alberta Psychologists, College and Association of Registered Nurses, or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta. 1–3 years prior experience in a community mental health setting. 1–3 years prior experience in an acute care psychiatric setting. Strong interpersonal, communication, interviewing, and writing skills. In-depth knowledge of mental health and mental illness. Non‑violent crisis intervention skills. Experience providing therapy and psychosocial interventions. Training in CBT, DBT, group psychotherapy, family therapy, or other endorsed therapies. Current BCLS‑HCP certification. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with sexual and domestic violence offenders. Knowledge of justice and legal systems. Recent experience with offender populations. Experience in forensic or community mental health settings. Experience engaging community partners and stakeholders.
