Overview The West Coast General Hospital (WCGH) is seeking physicians to join our ‘Community Hospital Inpatient Physician’ (CHIP) team. Full‑time or part‑time positions are available. WCGH fosters a collaborative, patient‑safety‑focused environment that values culturally safe, trauma‑informed care. Location Port Alberni, a coastal city with a population of 18,000 in the Alberni Valley, offers a family‑friendly community with affordable housing, strong public schools, and access to both rural and urban amenities. Responsibilities Serve as the Medical Resident Physician (MRP) for unattached & unassigned inpatients to Family Practice service – rounding, arranging transfers, discharge planning, and responding to urgent calls. Ensure adequate flow of admissions and discharges; attend daily structured team reports; support allied teams in hospital and community settings. Provide consult services to on‑site ambulatory clinics (Medical Day Care) and virtual outreach consults to rural health sites and Indigenous communities. Participate in daily on‑site MRP coverage (0700‑2200, 52 weeks/year, including statutory holidays). Provide afternoon/evening coverage 1700‑2200, and respond to NH calls when Primary Care Physician is unreachable. Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide direct/indirect patient care for patients of all ages with a wide variety of illnesses. Possibly provide First‑call After‑Hours OR Assist, MAID physician services, or NTP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) services, subject to training and privileging. Qualifications Medical degree (MD/DO) or equivalent, with completion of relevant training and/or privileging criteria. Valid medical license and good standing in Canada. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Compensation and Benefits Compensation Type: Clinical Service Contract, Estimated Remuneration: Service Agreement. Additional remuneration may include: Retention Premium 7.98% Retention Flat Fee $12,367 Relocation Funding up to $15,000 Recruitment Incentive up to $10,000 Rural CME starting at $2,200/yr in years 3‑4, increasing to $4,400/yr after 4 years.
