A Better World. In support of national and global challenges, the Canada Impact+ Research Chairs program seeks to attract world-leading researchers. Eligible institutions may nominate internationally renowned scholars as chairholders in areas of strategic importance to Canada. Candidates who are internationally based (working and residing outside of Canada at the time of the first intake) are eligible to apply. Position The Hospital for Sick Children invites applications for a Senior Scientist to advance transformational research programs aligned with one or more of the Government of Canada’s strategic priority areas. The nominee\'s research must align with federal priorities, with Health and biotechnology being strongly emphasized. Two maximum award values are available: $1 million per year or $500K per year, for 8 years. The successful candidate will be appointed as a Senior Scientist in the SickKids Research Institute with an anticipated start date between September 2026 and July 2027. Some positions may be cross-appointed at TAHSN with an academic appointment to a University of Toronto department/unit. Responsibilities and expectations Maintain an established, excellent, innovative and internationally recognized research trajectory with an outstanding, independent, externally funded program. Demonstrate a record of significant, sustained contributions and publications in top-ranked journals and internationally ranked presses; participate in professional associations and secure competitive funding; receive endorsements from high-standing referees. Demonstrate a strong record of research impact including translation, mobilization and application with concrete economic and/or social benefits for end users and stakeholders. Act as an effective supervisor and mentor for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows; demonstrate teaching accomplishments through supervision of MSc and PhD students. Qualifications Excellent, innovative and internationally recognized research trajectory with an outstanding, independent, externally funded program. Strong record of research impact and translation with tangible benefits. Proven supervision and mentoring ability; demonstrated teaching accomplishments. Cross-appointment possibilities with affiliated institutions and collaboration across sectors. Administrative details The rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Expatriate Canadians wishing to relocate to Canada are encouraged to apply. The position may include a cross appointment in a relevant department at the University of Toronto and nearby teaching hospitals.
