Job Title Commercial & Contractual Subcontract Lead Job Description We are looking for a Commercial & Contractual Subcontract Lead to oversee a portfolio of approximately 250 individual subcontracts, valued at around 1 billion Canadian dollars. In this role you will lead a team of field subcontract administrators and coordinators, working closely with senior project management, engineering management, and design professionals to ensure project success. Key Responsibilities Develop and manage comprehensive subcontract and material contract administration procedures from inception to completion. Serve as the primary point of contact for all subcontract and material contract administration matters. Ensure strict compliance with contract provisions and assist with drafting & managing contract correspondence. Oversee the preparation and management of change orders, ensuring accurate identification of claims. Manage all aspects of subcontract payment provisions, including reviewing and approving payments. Resolve subcontractor grievances and claims promptly and fairly. Review subcontractor claims and contracts to ensure conformity with project policies and standards. Administer and maintain subcontract management systems, ensuring data integrity and accessibility. Communicate and enforce subcontracting policies and procedures to the project team. Provide comprehensive training to project team members on subcontracting policies and procedures. Collaborate with senior project management, engineering management, and design professionals to align subcontract administration with overall project goals. Monitor and evaluate subcontractor performance, providing feedback and implementing corrective actions as necessary. Lead and mentor a team of field subcontract administrators and coordinators. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in subcontract administration and management. Qualifications A Master’s degree preferred; a BA/BS in business, engineering, supply chain management, construction management, or a related field required. 10–15 years of experience in engineering and/or construction or equivalent field experience. Extensive knowledge of equipment and materials used in Design‑and‑Build projects. Familiarity with the Canadian construction industry and the Ontario Construction Act. Detail‑oriented, flexible, highly motivated with a strong work ethic and professional demeanor. Effective time management and organizational skills. Ability to perform multiple tasks accurately and efficiently. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. A team player who can also work independently to meet deadlines. Strong leadership and people‑management skills. Advanced knowledge in risk evaluation, claims mitigation, and dispute resolution. Proficiency in subcontract management systems and related software.
