Career Services Coordinator

The Career Services Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting students' career development by providing comprehensive career advising, practicum placement and internship coordination, as well as facilitating connections to campus and community resources. This position requires a strong understanding of career development principles, knowledge of industry trends, and the ability to guide students in achieving their career goals. The Career Services Coordinator serves as a valuable resource for students, offering guidance and support throughout their academic journey and beyond.

Responsibilities:

1. Career Advising:

  • Provide individualized career advice to students, assisting them in exploring career options, identifying their strengths and interests, and developing career goals.
  • Conduct career assessments, including personality assessments, interest inventories, and skills assessments, to help students make informed career decisions.
  • Offer guidance on resume writing, cover letter preparation, job search strategies, and interview preparation techniques.
  • Develop, update, and implement career development activities that support students through exposure to the program career field and relevant opportunities with a focus on developing career goals and ensuring students have a documented and actionable job search and career plan prior to program completion.

2. Internship Coordination:

  • Coordinate internship programs and opportunities in collaboration with employers, faculty, and industry partners.
  • Engage students in job search skill building to identify and apply for appropriate internship opportunities relevant to their field of study and career interests.
  • Provide training and support to students throughout the entire internship preparation and placement process, including resume and cover letter review, interview preparation and mock interview support, employment expectations.
  • Connect students with appropriate internship, externship, or job shadowing opportunities.
  • Manage all aspects of practicum placement including identifying and securing program relevant practicum placement opportunities, ensuring all practicum requirements are met prior to placement, completing practicum agreements and documentation, tracking internship progress and evaluations as well as managing employer host communications throughout the practicum.
  • Assist instructors with management of regulated program practicums and clinical experiences including practicum information tracking and record keeping, managing external communications and regulatory compliance, and ensuring accurate and comprehensive reporting to external regulatory bodies as required.

3. Industry Trends and Networking:

  • Stay informed about current employment trends, economic indicators, and industry developments relevant to students' career interests.
  • Establish and cultivate relationships with employers, alumni, and industry professionals to facilitate networking opportunities, informational interviews, and job shadowing experiences for students.
  • Organize career fairs, networking events, and employer presentations to connect students with potential employers and internship providers.

4. Campus and Community Engagement:

  • Collaborate with campus departments, student organizations, and community agencies to promote career-related programming and resources.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops, seminars, and presentations on topics related to career development, professional skills, and job search strategies.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and campus/community resources, referring students to relevant support services as needed.
  • Participates in annual commencement ceremony, ongoing departmental training, and cross-training activities to ensure an understanding of the colleges programs, curriculum, graduation requirements, policies, and procedures, and resources and services available to students.

5. Data Management and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records and manage database and tracking systems, recording practicum requirements, student preparation, student and employer interactions, and outcomes throughout the student lifecycle from internship through to career preparation and graduate employment.
  • Generate comprehensive reports on student engagement, practicum outcomes, career services utilization as well as program completion and graduate employment rates to meet regulatory reporting requirements, assess program effectiveness and inform future initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, Education, Human Resources, Career Development, or a related field from an Accredited institution.
  • Previous experience in career counseling, advising, or related student services role preferred.
  • Proven track record of successful external stakeholder and industry engagement and relationship building.
  • Strong knowledge of career development theories, assessments, and resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and career services software/platforms.
  • Commitment to supporting student success and fostering a culture of career readiness.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent


Pay: From $42,000.00 per year
