The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) plays a crucial role in managing food safety emergencies across Canada, such as Avian influenza and Bovine tuberculosis. To support the CFIA’s response, additional resources are expected to be needed on a short-term basis (full-time, part-time or as required). We are looking for a range of skills from various levels and professional groups to fill assorted positions for the various phases of our emergency response. Duties Emergency response duties are similar to those assigned with the various career profiles at the CFIA, see: . Intent of the process This process will be used to staff emergency terms only, i.e. the temporary appointment of a person to support an emergency response. Emergency terms must meet the minimum requirements of the position, i.e. required levels of education/occupational certification, official languages, security and other conditions of employment. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Individuals who have been appointed to the CFIA as an emergency term are not eligible to be a rehired term and any subsequent non-emergency appointment must be made in the context of another type of staffing action. CR AND GL - ESSENTIAL EDUCATION Clerical and Regulatory Group (CR) and General Labour and Trades Group (GL): successful completion of 2 years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience EG - ESSENTIAL EDUCATION Engineering and Scientific Support Group (EG): Completion of post-secondary education specializing in relevant technical sciences VM - ESSENTIAL EDUCATION Veterinary Medicine Group (VM): graduation from a recognized school of Veterinary Medicine, defined as: Graduation from a veterinary school accredited or approved by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA); or Graduation from another veterinary school and holding a Certificate of Qualification (Parts A, B & C) granted by the National Examining Board of the CVMA AND Eligibility for membership in a Canadian veterinary association, defined as: Current members of a Canadian veterinary association with a license recognized by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association; Non-members of Canadian veterinary associations holding a Certificate of Qualification granted by the National Examining Board (NEB) of the CVMA. To have and maintain a valid driver’s license. To use in the prescribed circumstances and manner all prescribed safety materials, equipment, devices and clothing. Willing and able to be immunized as indicated by job risk, location, overseas travel and other identified risks. Willing and available to travel frequently, as required. Willing and available to work shifts in different establishments. Willing to work in various locations, including third-party premises. To use prescribed and provided respiratory equipment that meets the respiratory program requirements; to undergo fit testing (e.g. may need to be clean‑shaven, depending on the respirator design). Willingness to abide by strict biosecurity protocols which may require showering several times a day or abiding by certain restrictions on contact with livestock outside of the workplace. Willing and able to work in environmentally challenging or physically demanding conditions.
