Posted: January 21, 2026 Closing Date: February 4, 2026 Position Type: Permanent Union: Exempt (MP) Overview As an Engineer, Transmission System Planning with ENMAX Power Corporation, you will help shape the future of Calgary’s electrical grid. In this role, you’ll work on power system development, running simulations, identifying system deficiencies, and recommending solutions that support reliability and growth. You’ll collaborate across teams to progress projects, assess customer connections, and contribute to business cases for capital sustainment. Experience with PSSE and Python is valuable for performing power system studies, analyzing data and automating processes. Curiosity, initiative, and a passion for digging into complex problems and brainstorming new approaches are key to success in this position. Major Responsibilities Development of an innovative capital planning and asset portfolio Support the development of long-term transmission planning and asset replacement strategies through system assessments, and risk-based economic analysis to identify and recommend potential future projects to address system and asset deficiencies Prepare and defend strong capital justifications or business cases though analytical evaluations to obtain regulatory approval for transmission planning and asset-driven capital additions, infrastructure replacement, or modification projects Project and program ownership duties for transmission projects and programs Perform and authenticate technical studies related to transmission system planning, operation and design (i.e. load flow, short circuit, voltage stability, arc flash, EMT, etc.) Calculate electrical equipment parameters (e.g., facility ratings, transformer and line impedances, etc.) and meet modeling requirements in accordance with Alberta Reliability Standards, authenticating where required. Develop, approve and maintain power system models and data in PSS/E, DSATools, SKM PowerTools, ETAP, PSCAD, Ratekit, Cymcap, and other software as required. Authenticate required outputs. Prepare and authenticate engineering study reports and interconnection proposals for submission to the AESO through the AESO Connection Process Support projects in development and completion of required AESO project data submissions to ensure project schedules and regulatory requirements are met Represent Transmission System Planning and Asset Management Team by providing technical expertise on various working groups and committees Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholder groups including the AESO, Asset Management, Project Management, Engineering, Operations, Distribution Planning and Field Services Identify, recommend, and develop processes and procedural improvements for calculation and modelling of various equipment parameters and data submissions Education Required B.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering P.Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA) Qualifications & Experience At least 4 years of engineering experience in the electric utility sector. Broad technical background in transmission or operational planning. Proven ability to manage projects from concept through alternative development stages.Experience using PSS/E, DSATools, SKM PowerTools, ETAP, PSCAD, Ratekit, or Cymcap Experience with Python programming for data analysis, automation, or system modeling is considered an asset. Credible, persuasive and clear in both oral and written presentations Demonstrates curiosity and a proactive approach to problem-solving; digs into root causes and explores creative solutions Organizes and manages multiple priorities in a dynamic environment; adapts quickly and maintains high standards across diverse engineering projects. Develops and defends business cases for capital upgrades; presents recommendations confidently and responds to challenges with well-supported rationale.
