Based in Toronto and reporting to the VP of Product Communications and Corporate Affairs, the Director of Corporate Communications will actively drive corporate media relations, corporate reputation building, financial communications, and issues management for the company. The role requires the candidate to enjoy being hands‑on, with a high degree of autonomy, the ability to operate in uncertainty in a matrixed organization and largely without junior support. Extremely good attention to detail is essential. About the Role In this opportunity as Director, Corporate Communications, you will: Create, maintain, implement, and evaluate an effective and engaging communications and events strategy that raises the profile of our work, ensures we are engaging with the right stakeholders, delivers our key messages and helps to progress our ambitions. Constantly protect and actively position Thomson Reuters in a manner that supports and advances the corporate strategy in the right way. Build and execute a corporate narrative that provides differentiation from our competitors and a platform that enables our spokespeople to articulate what we want Thomson Reuters to be known for – using the media as a channel. Lead a team of PR specialists as they plan and execute communications – providing alignment, coordination and focus to product communications globally. Build and maintain relationships with global corporate and commercial media. Utilize experience to navigate complex scenarios and develop clear positions on business issues. Lead complex media relations efforts including strategy development, story pitching, fact‑checking, reporter targeting and results packaging (media analysis and monitoring of relevant company, competitor and industry coverage). Train and prepare various executive‑level spokespeople for media and presentation delivery. Develop positioning and strategies to communicate Thomson Reuters' position on issues impacting the industry and related businesses. Work with the CFO and the Investor Relations team to lead the team in delivering on financial communications for quarterly earnings announcements, mergers and acquisitions and support analyst/investor meetings. Partner in the development, implementation and coordination of media relations strategies to build a favourable image of the company in the eyes of investors, shareholders, customers, employees and the public. Lead and support the formation and execution of communications processes, strategies and messaging for issues affecting the reputation of the business and senior management. Develop coordinated responses with leaders across the organization including sales, technology, product and legal – mandatory. About You You're a fit for the role of Director, Corporate Communications if you have: 15+ years of experience building and leading product communication teams in global, technology‑based, SaaS organisations. Experience driving results for technology product launches and thought leadership through use of media campaigns and effective content creation. Proven experience in coaching spokespeople and supporting media outreach programmes at a senior executive level. Public company expertise required, with solid judgement and discretion dealing with highly confidential and material information, such as M&A, financial communications & operations. Excellent communication skills; additional languages advantageous. Deep knowledge of and relationships with top‑tier media contacts, skilled media relations capabilities with the ability to lead media outreach programmes at a senior executive level. Proven ability to coordinate a global media programme in a matrixed organisation (working with direct and non‑direct reports). Experience in financial services, information services, media and/or technology industries an advantage. Note: Due to the leadership and advanced network required in this role there will be a requirement to work from our Toronto office a minimum of 3 days a week, with a requirement for business travel. Compensation Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range for this role in Ontario, Canada is $155,000 CAD – $205,000 CAD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. It is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward programme which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programmes. The role may also be eligible for an annual bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
