Build navigation for Ribbit’s autonomous airplanes in Burlington, combining visual-inertial odometry, sensor fusion, and real-time C++ in a hybrid setting.
This senior engineering position focuses on state estimation for aircraft operating through challenging navigation conditions. You will develop INS mechanisation, GNSS/INS integration, vision-based localization, and alternative-sensor approaches. Your work will support automatic takeoff, approach, flare, and landing while producing trustworthy estimates for downstream users.
Key Responsibilities:
Design aircraft-state estimators using Kalman and factor-graph methods Develop visual-inertial odometry, map matching, and landmark detection Fuse IMUs, GNSS, cameras, LiDAR, radar, and air-data sensors Estimate wind, air data, and terrain-relative height Validate real-time C++ through logs, simulation, HIL, and flight Requirements:
Experience developing navigation or localization software on real hardware Strong foundation in recursive, batch, and nonlinear estimation techniques Experience with inertial navigation, coordinate frames, and IMU error modelling GNSS-denied localization experience, especially visual odometry or visual SLAM Python or MATLAB experience for analysis and filter tuning Bring aircraft navigation, visual localization, and sensor-fusion experience to Ribbit’s autonomous flight programs in Ontario.
