Position Overview Reporting to the Director, Benefit Systems, the Business Intelligence & Data Analyst is responsible for supporting the organization's data management, reporting, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives by transforming complex data into actionable insights that support operational efficiency and decision-making.

Working closely with leadership, business stakeholders, and technical teams, the Position develops and maintains reporting solutions, dashboards, data models, and documentation while ensuring data quality, integrity, security, privacy, and consistency across the organization. The role serves as a data custodian, working to establish and maintain standards for data governance, data management, data anonymization, privacy protection, and business intelligence practices.

Work Requirements This posting is for one (1) full-time position based in the Edmonton office. The regular hours of work for this position is Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Job Responsibilities

Develop a comprehensive understanding of the organization's data ecosystem, including data sources, database structures, business applications, reporting processes, data definitions, and data ownership.

Utilize advanced Excel, SQL, and reporting tools to collect, analyze, validate, and interpret data from multiple systems and sources, including converting and migrating spreadsheet-based data into structured database environments.

Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, scorecards, and data visualizations that provide meaningful insights and support operational, tactical, and strategic decision-making.

Collaborate closely with departments across the organization to gather business requirements, document reporting needs, and translate operational objectives into functional specifications, requirements documentation, user stories, and acceptance criteria.

Serve as a data custodian by promoting data integrity, consistency, and governance standards while supporting cross-functional initiatives involving reporting, analytics, systems, and process improvement.

Identify data inconsistencies, duplicate records, structural inefficiencies, and opportunities for optimization within databases, spreadsheets, applications, and reporting processes.

Support the maintenance and ongoing enhancement of data models, database structures, and reporting environments while applying a foundational understanding of data architecture principles and best practices.

Develop and maintain standard report templates, data definitions, business rules, technical documentation, user guides, and process documentation to support knowledge transfer and consistency across the organization.

Support data migration, transformation, integration, and cleansing activities involving both structured and unstructured data to improve data quality and usability.

Build, maintain, and monitor ETL processes, automations, and scheduled data workflows to improve reporting accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.

Perform regular data audits, validation processes, reconciliation activities, and data quality assessments to ensure information accuracy, integrity, completeness, and compliance with established business rules and standards.

Analyze datasets to identify trends, patterns, risks, and opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations that support organizational goals, business outcomes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Streamline and standardize data collection, reporting, and analytics processes by identifying efficiencies, reducing manual effort, and improving data accessibility across the organization.

Monitor and troubleshoot reporting, dashboard, and data issues, investigating root causes and implementing appropriate corrective actions.

Communicate findings effectively through reports, dashboards, presentations, and stakeholder discussions, providing regular updates on key performance indicators (KPIs), performance metrics, and business insights.
