Venor is proud to partner with ReelData AI on their search for a Senior Frontend Developer to join their growing team in Nova Scotia.
ReelData AI is transforming land-based aquaculture through artificial intelligence, computer vision, and data-driven technology. Their solutions help aquaculture operators make better decisions around fish appetite, biomass, welfare, feeding, and overall farm performance, supporting a more efficient and sustainable future for the industry. As ReelData continues to scale its technology and customer base, they are seeking a Senior Frontend Developer to lead the development of their Operations Dashboard—the primary interface aquaculture operators use to understand and act on complex farm data. This is an opportunity for an experienced frontend developer who enjoys combining strong engineering fundamentals with product thinking and design.
You’ll work closely with Product, Design, Backend Engineering, and customer‑facing teams to turn complex operational data into intuitive, reliable experiences used by customers in production. This role is remote within Nova Scotia, with occasional visits to ReelData's Dartmouth location and customer farm sites. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada and able to support Nova Scotia‑based travel requirements.
The Opportunity As a Senior Frontend Developer, you’ll take meaningful ownership of both the technical development and user experience of ReelData's Operations Dashboard. You’ll work across workflows involving biomass, fish welfare, feeding, tank monitoring, and analytics, translating product requirements and customer feedback into polished, accessible interfaces. Beyond feature development, you’ll help shape frontend architecture, UX standards, component strategy, testing practices, and technical direction as the platform continues to evolve. This is a hands‑on role within a small, fast‑moving team where you’ll have the autonomy to make decisions, improve existing systems, and see the direct impact of your work on customers.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead frontend development for ReelData's Operations Dashboard across biomass, welfare, feeding, tank monitoring, and analytics workflows. Translate product requirements and customer feedback into thoughtful design concepts and intuitive, accessible user experiences. Build and maintain reusable components, data visualizations, tables, forms, and interactive workflows using React and TypeScript. Help drive the design and evolution of the Operations Dashboard with a strong focus on usability. Integrate frontend applications with GraphQL and REST APIs, partnering closely with backend engineers on data contracts and performance. Optimize application performance when working with large datasets, network requests, rendering, and complex application states. Help shape frontend architecture and technical standards, including approaches to state management, data fetching, and shared components. Write and maintain unit, integration, Storybook, and end‑to‑end tests. Participate in code reviews and provide thoughtful technical feedback and mentorship to teammates. Investigate production issues, support releases, and contribute to the reliability of development and deployment processes. Collaborate across Product, Design, Engineering, and customer‑facing teams to deliver meaningful improvements based on real‑world needs. What We’re Looking For
Several years of professional experience developing and supporting production web applications. Strong experience with React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Experience taking ownership of product design direction and translating functional requirements into user-friendly interfaces. A track record of owning features from early discovery and design through development, testing, release, and iteration. Experience developing data‑intensive applications, dashboards, visualizations, tables, or complex operational workflows. Experience working with GraphQL, REST APIs, asynchronous data, and client‑side state management. Strong frontend fundamentals, including accessibility, responsive design, component architecture, and performance optimization. A pragmatic approach to technical decision-making and improving existing codebases incrementally. Experience developing meaningful automated tests and maintaining quality as products evolve. Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly when explaining technical decisions and trade‑offs. A collaborative mindset and an interest in mentoring teammates and strengthening engineering practices. Ability to work independently within a small, fast‑moving environment where requirements evolve as the team learns. Assets
Experience with Apollo, Redux, Material UI, ApexCharts, or similar frontend libraries. Familiarity with Storybook, React Testing Library, Playwright, Vite, Bun, or Biome. Experience with Figma or other product design tools. Experience working across the frontend/backen
