As our next Coating Process Engineering Specialist, you’ll be at the forefront of developing, optimizing, and supporting Atmospheric Plasma Spray processes for fuel cell and automotive products. What You’ll Be Doing



  • Develop, optimize, and sustain processes related to the Atmospheric Plasma Spray line
  • Provide daily technical support to Production, Maintenance, and Quality for APS operations and related fuel cell processes
  • Establish, document, and maintain process parameters and work instructions for APS, deburring, grit blasting, and inspection operations
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute trials and experiments to improve coating performance, yield, throughput, and cost
  • Analyze experimental and production data and provide data-driven recommendations
  • Support Advanced Product Quality Planning activities for fuel cell and automotive products
  • Participate in internal and external design and process reviews, providing technical input on manufacturability, coating design, and process capability
  • Support the manufacture, inspection, and approval of prototype and preproduction components
  • Lead and support root cause investigations and corrective and preventive actions for process and product issues
  • Conduct capacity analyses and implement improvements focused on scrap reduction, cycle-time reduction, productivity, and waste elimination
  • Develop test methods and inspection criteria for coating thickness, adhesion, surface condition, and other critical characteristics
  • Ensure appropriate gauges and measurement systems are selected and used effectively
  • Train operators, technicians, and other team members on APS processes, equipment operation, work instructions, and new procedures
  • Support equipment troubleshooting and maintenance activities in collaboration with Maintenance and Engineering
  • Provide process engineering support to other powder metal automotive components and manufacturing processes as required
  • Ensure compliance with Johnson Electric’s Quality Management System, EHS policies, IATF 16949, and ISO 14001 requirements
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For



  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • At least one year of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong hands‑on aptitude and willingness to spend significant time on the production floor working with equipment and operators
  • Ability to work with process equipment and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles and their application to manufacturing problems
  • Strong data‑analysis skills, including the ability to design experiments, interpret results, and make data‑driven decisions
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement tools, including 5S, root cause analysis, PDCA, and basic Lean concepts
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong communication, collaboration, documentation, and problem‑solving skills

Bonus Points If You Have



  • Experience with thermal spray processes such as plasma spray or HVOF
  • Experience with fuel cell components, advanced coatings, or powder metallurgy
  • Experience in automotive or advanced manufacturing environments
  • Exposure to Six Sigma or similar process improvement methodologies
