Reporting to the Director of the French Language Centre (FLC), the Program Manager will focus on developing, delivering, planning, and organizing structured programming that supports language acquisition, student engagement, and academic success. It will also provide a liaison function with other units and external organizations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee learning and cultural opportunities that complement and enhance the student academic experience outside of specific credit courses
- Develop and deliver workshops focused on conversation practice outside the classroom
- Design and implement co-curricular learning activities and events, and initiatives that engage with French language and culture, and career readiness
- Create resources that support these programs (eg workshop guides, activity materials, learning resources, orientation content, and supplementary academic support tools)
- Deliver and facilitate structured workshops (eg Jasette, French at Work Program) focused on oral communication, professional skills, and intercultural competencies
- Monitor student participation, engagement, and program outcomes to inform retention and student success activities
- Conduct student outreach and provide individualized support and guidance to enhance engagement and persistence
- Develop, implement, and assess initiatives that foster belonging, linguistic confidence, and sustained participation in French-language programming
- Manage program activity registrations, reminders, and student communications
- Prepare detailed reports evaluating program effectiveness
- Oversee recruitment and training of a team of Francophone language assistants
- Prepare job postings and interview candidates
- Supervise casual employees. Assign work. Provide ongoing guidance and support. Maintain team’s work schedule
- Promote programs and maintain digital presence on FLC’s social media platforms
- Contribute to website redesign and ensure compliance with university branding and accessibility standards
- Liaise with FLC stakeholders to plan McGill’s participation in institutional academic collaborations (eg Jumelage linguistique, Parcours Francoville)
- Develop intercultural partnerships (e.g., Université de Montréal, Université de Lorraine, UQAM)
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
- Fluency in spoken and written French, required to support pedagogical activities and all forms of professional communication, and advanced proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Languages, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in program coordination, student engagement, and the development and delivery of educational, language-learning, and intercultural programs and initiatives.
- Minimum of two years of experience coordinating programs, projects, or student initiatives in a post-secondary environment.
- Minimum of two years of experience designing and facilitating workshops, training sessions, or learning activities for students in a post-secondary environment.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and assessing programs or initiatives that support student engagement, retention, and success.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships, exercise sound judgment, and address challenges through a collaborative and solution-oriented approach.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Assets:
- Understanding of the Quebec context related to supporting French language learning in an English-language higher education environment.
- Experience developing co-curricular and/or extracurricular French as a Second Language (FSL) programming in higher education.
- Experience managing digital communications, including website development or redesign and social media platforms.
- Experience supervising, training, and mentoring language assistants or peer facilitators.
- Experience supporting and contributing to academic committees and working groups in a higher education environment.
