Director – Technology Lead, Trading Systems

Toronto, ON / New Jersey, USA Employment Type: Full-Time Level: Director Position Overview RBC is seeking an experienced Director / Technology Lead – Trading Systems to provide senior technology leadership for front-office trading platforms supporting Sales Trading, Traders, Brokers, and Quantitative teams. The ideal candidate will bring 20+ years of technology experience, with deep expertise in Capital Markets and electronic/trading systems, combined with strong software engineering, quantitative technology, and architecture experience. This is a senior hands-on leadership position requiring the ability to work closely with Sales Traders, Traders, Brokers, Quants, Developers, and business stakeholders to design and deliver high-performance trading technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the architecture, design, development, and modernization of enterprise trading platforms.
• Partner directly with Sales Trading, Trading, Brokerage, and Quant teams to understand business requirements and trading workflows.
• Provide technology leadership across front-office trading applications and related platforms.
• Design scalable, resilient, high-performance solutions supporting trading and execution workflows.
• Lead and mentor senior developers, architects, and technology teams.
• Work closely with quantitative developers to integrate pricing, analytics, models, and trading strategies into production systems.
• Drive technical strategy, architecture standards, engineering quality, and platform modernization.
• Evaluate existing trading technology and identify opportunities for performance, automation, and scalability improvements.
• Collaborate with business, risk, operations, infrastructure, and other technology teams.
• Remain hands-on where required with architecture, solution design, technical reviews, and complex engineering challenges. Required Qualifications
• 20+ years of technology/software engineering experience.
• Significant experience within Capital Markets, Investment Banking, or Trading Technology.
• Deep understanding of trading systems and front-office trading workflows.
• Strong experience supporting Sales Trading, Traders, Brokers, or electronic trading teams.
• Strong software engineering and architecture background.
• Advanced experience with Python and quantitative/development environments.
• Experience working with Quant Developers, Quantitative Analysts, or algorithmic trading teams.
• Proven experience leading large-scale, business-critical technology platforms.
• Strong understanding of high-performance, real-time, and distributed systems.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both senior business executives and highly technical engineering teams.
• Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring senior technology professionals. Preferred Background Experience across areas such as electronic trading, execution platforms, pricing, market data, order management, trade lifecycle, quantitative analytics, or front-office risk would be highly valuable. The successful candidate will combine deep Capital Markets knowledge, strong engineering expertise, quantitative technology experience, and Director-level technology leadership.
