Calgary, Alberta Posting Close Date: October 30, 2026 Reports To: Director, Light Oil Development Obsidian Energy is seeking a Junior Reservoir Engineer to join our Light Oil Development team. Engineers-in-Training (E.
I.
T.s) are welcome to apply. We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative individual who is eager to bring new ideas, build practical experience, and learn from talented senior engineers. Working with experienced team members, you will contribute to the evaluation, development, and management of our light oil assets through well and reservoir performance analysis, production forecasting, and waterflood surveillance. This role offers hands-on learning and mentorship, with opportunities to take on greater responsibility as your skills develop and help the team deliver measurable economic value. Responsibilities Duties include the following, but are not limited to:
• Support well performance analysis and use the results to help develop type curves and production forecasts for drilling opportunities;
• Apply and build your knowledge of reservoir engineering fundamentals, including decline analysis, volumetrics, material balance, and reservoir analysis;
• Assist with waterflood surveillance, including voidage replacement ratio reviews, pattern performance assessment, and identifying improvement opportunities;
• Collaborate with geology, geophysics, and other disciplines to evaluate reservoir development opportunities;
• Assist with annual reserves evaluations;
• Prepare and present findings and recommendations to the development team, with opportunities to present to senior leaders and executives; and
• Bring fresh ideas to improve workflows, analytical methods, and the team’s understanding of the asset. Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline
• Registered, or eligible for registration, as an Engineer-in-Training (E.
I.
T.) or Professional Engineer (P.
Eng.) with APEGA
• Early-career applicants with up to five years of experience, including E.
I.
T.s, are encouraged to apply; relevant co-op, internship, or industry experience will be considered an asset
• Foundational understanding of reservoir engineering principles and a strong desire to develop practical expertise
• Academic or practical exposure to production-data analysis, decline-curve analysis, type-curve development, or waterflood surveillance will be considered an asset
• Familiarity with GeoScout, ValNav, or similar technical and economic evaluation software will be considered an asset
• An interest in light oil development, horizontal wells, and hydraulically fractured reservoirs
• Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and practical problem-solving skills
• Effective organizational, communication, and teamwork skills, with a willingness to learn from experienced colleagues
• Must be eligible to work in Canada
