You know accounting. You enjoy people. You’re ready to put the two together.
You’ve built a strong accounting foundation and enjoy working with different clients. You ask good questions, notice when something doesn’t make sense, and get satisfaction from helping someone understand or solve a problem.
Perhaps you’re an emerging CPA who enjoys public practice but is ready for more variety than preparing compilation after compilation. You want to work directly with business owners, put recommendations into action, and see the difference your work makes.
At Plugged-IN CPA, we’re looking for someone to combine accounting expertise with client relationships, implementation, innovation, and team development. This is an opportunity to take ownership of meaningful projects and grow toward broader leadership within our Client Accounting Services department.
Help owners run their business, rather than have their business run them
Our clients come to us because they want to focus on running their business. They want their accounting responsibilities handled properly, their financial information easy to access, and someone who can help them understand what it means.
You’ll lead new-client onboarding by getting to know the business: how it operates, what the owner needs, which systems are in place, and where things are becoming difficult. You’ll use your accounting judgment to recommend practical improvements and coordinate the setup.
That could mean improving invoicing so a client gets paid faster, simplifying payroll information collection, implementing accounting software, or helping an owner understand their financial reports.
You’ll work with clients through implementation, answer questions, resolve issues, and confirm that the agreed setup is working. Once they are confident and ready for ongoing service, you’ll coordinate a clear handoff to our experienced bookkeeping and payroll professionals.
The role
Our Client Accounting Services (CAS) team provides ongoing bookkeeping, payroll, and financial reporting. Your role helps establish and improve the accounting systems, processes, and knowledge that make those services successful. Routine bookkeeping processing is not the core responsibility of this position.
Your initial priorities will be onboarding, implementations, and client success. As you become established, you’ll also strengthen our team’s technical capabilities, develop training and resources, and drive improvements and innovation across the department.
What you’ll do
Lead onboarding and implementations
• Understand each client’s business, accounting needs, systems, and reporting expectations.
• Assess existing records and identify cleanup requirements, technical issues, and implementation risks.
• Recommend accounting systems and workflows suited to the business and the agreed service scope.
• Identify differences between client needs and the proposed scope, bringing forward recommendations early.
• Lead implementations and conversions, coordinating responsibilities, timelines, and progress updates.
• Establish a documented handoff so the ongoing service team can deliver confidently. Build client confidence and success
• Listen carefully to business owners and translate their concerns into practical next steps.
• Help improve invoicing, collections, document management, approvals, payroll workflows, and reporting.
• Teach clients how to use their systems, understand their responsibilities, and read their financial information.
• Follow through on assigned concerns and check that solutions are working.
• Recognize changing needs and coordinate recommendations for revised or additional services. Develop technical capability
• Investigate accounting issues, recommend solutions, and recognize when to consult colleagues on complex matters.
• Work with the File Review Manager to turn recurring errors and knowledge gaps into practical improvements.
• Develop and deliver staff onboarding, technical training, and learning resources.
• Coordinate relevant workshops and assess whether training improves work quality.
• Help strengthen the connection between ongoing accounting, reliable reporting, and year-end readiness. Drive innovation across the team
• Stay informed about developments in accounting technology, AI, and automation, identifying opportunities relevant to our clients and team.
• Bring forward ideas that improve accuracy, reduce repetitive work, and make service easier to deliver.
• Work with our IT and operations teams to design, test, and implement approved solutions.
• Help colleagues adopt new ways of working through practical demonstrations, training, and support.
• Assess whether changes deliver the intended benefits and refine them based on feedback. Improve processes and lead projects
• Develop and maintain SOPs, checklists, implementation guides, and client resources.
• Agree on project priorities, scope, and timing, then take ownership of delivery.
• Maintain accurate time records, monitor budgets, and communicate scope changes or obstacles early.
• Build toward broader technical and departmental leadership as your experience develops. What you bring Accounting knowledge and judgment
• A CPA designation, or an equivalent combination of accounting education and substantial relevant experience demonstrating strong technical capability.
• Experience in public practice or a comparable accounting environment.
• A strong understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations, financial reporting, and the relationship between ongoing accounting and year-end work. The ability to figure things out
• You can take an unfamiliar problem, research the options, ask thoughtful questions, and develop a practical solution.
• You’re comfortable learning new processes without needing step-by-step instructions.
• You know when to seek input and can turn that input into action. Organization and follow-through
• You translate objectives into plans and manage competing priorities, deadlines, and dependencies.
• You move projects forward without repeated reminders.
• You communicate progress proactively and raise obstacles with recommendations for resolving them. An interest in people and businesses
• You enjoy conversations with owners and want to understand how their businesses work.
• You explain accounting concepts clearly and help people feel comfortable asking questions.
• You enjoy sharing knowledge and helping colleagues develop their skills. An interest in technology, AI, and better ways of working
• You’re curious about how technology and AI can improve accounting and the client experience.
• You’re open to change and enjoy exploring, testing, and learning.
• You balance enthusiasm for new tools with sound judgment about accuracy, confidentiality, and practical value.
• Experience with Xero, QuickBooks Online, and related systems is an asset. Your ability to learn and find solutions matters more than familiarity with every application we use.
