About the role
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our growing accounting team at our Head Office in Calgary, AB. This in-office position plays a key role in managing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting, and supporting the organization’s budgeting and financial analysis activities. The Senior Accountant will also support the development, implementation and ongoing effectiveness of internal controls, accounting policies and financial processes.
Responsibilities:
• Perform full-cycle accounting, including month-end and year-end close processes, journal entries, invoicing, and bank and general ledger reconciliations.
• Review and analyze technical accounting matters, financial statements, and ad hoc reports and schedules, as required.
• Provide oversight and review of accounts receivable and accounts payable activities.
• Ensure the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of financial information and reporting.
• Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff in the completion of day-to-day accounting activities.
• Support the development, implementation and maintenance of effective internal controls and accounting processes.
• Perform expense, inventory and variance analysis.
• Assist with year-end financial statement audit requests, schedules and supporting documentation.
• Prepare and maintain financial and management reporting for senior management.
• Review and analyze payroll information, with particular attention to discrepancies, reconciliations and taxable benefits.
• Consult with external accountants, financial institutions, vendors and other stakeholders, as required. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate may be required to successfully complete employment-related background screening appropriate to the position, which may include a criminal record check and other financial or security screening where reasonably required based on the duties and level of access associated with the role. requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting; CPA designation, or active pursuit toward completion, is an asset.
• Minimum three to five years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with progressively increasing responsibility for financial reporting, month-end close and complex accounting matters.
• Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements in accordance with ASPE and managing complex accounting transactions.
• Strong full-cycle accounting knowledge, including month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis, cash management, and financial reporting.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills, including the ability to apply professional judgment, support junior team members, and manage priorities in a multi-entity environment.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and demonstrated experience working with accounting/ERP systems.
• High degree of accuracy, discretion and professional judgment when handling confidential financial and employee information.
