Job Summary As the Environmental and Sustainability Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring that Sharp Canada complies with all relevant environmental regulations and standards. This role is steeped in compliance, and the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring adherence to it. Key Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations (e.g., CEPA, Federal Plastics initiatives, right-to-repair, extended producer responsibility). Prepare and submit environmental reports, including but not limited to environmental fee reporting, packaging reporting, plastic content of products, etc. Communicate promptly with product divisions leaders at Sharp when there are regulatory updates that will affect our products. Environmental Management Systems (EMS): Oversee and maintain Sharp Canada's Environmental Management System, ensuring it remains compliant with current environmental regulations and is continuously improved to reflect best practices. This will involve conducting internal audits and establishing corrective/preventive action plans. Work alongside our service and warehouse teams to ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous and electronic waste (WEEE, RoHS, EPRA compliance). Serve as the primary contact with EPRA and lead all activities to ensure our products are disposed of responsibly. Sustainability & Resource Efficiency: Maintain constant communication with our head office in Japan and our many factories worldwide to ensure that we are achieving our sustainability goals. Support initiatives to reduce environmental footprint and support Circular Economy efforts. Reporting & Documentation: Maintain environmental documentation, inspections, and compliance records. Maintain records of recycling, disposal and refurbishment for internal audits. Support corporate ESG reporting and customer environmental data requests. Qualifications University Degree or College Diploma in Environmental Studies is an asset, Intermediate Excel skills (ability to create charts, use basic pivot tables, use lookup functions, etc.) Strong communication skills, Solid understanding of waste management, energy efficiency, and sustainability initiatives, Familiarity with important industry terminology such as extended producer responsibility, circular economy, zero-waste, environmental stewardship, etc. Work Conditions Extended periods of sitting.
