The Opportunity Sussex Strategy Group is seeking an Associate to join our Energy practice group in our Toronto office. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting our clients in the energy sector, working closely with other team members to develop and execute public affairs strategies that advance our clients' interests and contribute to positive outcomes in the industry. While primarily focused on supporting client work, policy intelligence and analysis, and strategy development and execution, the Associate will also be responsible for attending meetings with clients and sending updates to our network on key policy developments. The candidate should have an interest in government affairs influencing the power and utilities sector, Ontario's electricity and natural gas markets, and the legislative and policy development processes, particularly as they relate to the evolving energy landscape in Ontario. The candidate must also have a high degree of political acuity and awareness of the provincial and federal political and policy landscape. Ways You Can Contribute Conduct research and analysis on energy policy, regulatory developments, and stakeholder positions. Assist in the development of public affairs strategies and advocacy campaigns. Draft communication materials, including briefing notes, press releases, and policy briefs. Monitor media coverage and provide insights on relevant issues impacting the energy sector. Coordinate meetings, events, and stakeholder engagements, including government relations activities. Support internal and external communications initiatives related to the energy sector. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and integration of public affairs efforts. Stay current with industry trends, political developments, and emerging issues affecting the energy sector. Who You Are Minimum 4-year university degree in an applicable area such as political science, energy systems, business or economics. Graduate degree considered a strong asset. Minimum 3 years of relevant government or industry experience. Strong research, analytical, and writing skills. Knowledge of Canadian energy policy, regulatory frameworks, and key stakeholders. Experience with stakeholder engagement, media relations, and event coordination Must be detailed orientated and focused on accuracy of work. Self motivated with an interest in taking on new tasks and learning new skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment, with the flexibility to adapt to different situations and client needs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proven organization, time management and problem-solving skills.
