Company Description Blumara is a naval architecture and marine engineering firm designing practical, ocean-ready solutions for commercial and government fleets. We blend rigorous engineering with user-centred design so vessels are safer, easier to operate, and more resilient. The Role We're seeking a Senior Human Systems Integration (HSI) Specialist with 10+ years of experience to lead human-centred engineering on our new build projects. You'll set the HSI approach across design, integration, trials, and acceptance; working with crews, designers, and stakeholders to make shipboard work simpler, safer, and more effective. What you'll do Lead the HSI approach for a complex naval platform, from design through integration and acceptance. Maintain operational needs and requirements traceability through design reviews and decisions. Guide layouts and interactions for operator and maintainer workspaces (e.g., bridge, command spaces, machinery and deck areas) to support safe, efficient tasks. Collaborate across disciplines (naval architecture, mechanical/electrical, combat systems, OEMs) to balance human performance, safety, and engineering constraints. Plan and oversee evaluations from formative assessments to acceptance activities, to gathering evidence and presenting findings. Engage stakeholders (operators, program office, regulators/Class) with clear documentation and briefings that support timely decisions. Mentor teammates and help build consistent HSI practices across the program. Qualifications 10+ years in HSI/HFE on complex systems (marine, defence, aerospace, rail, or comparable). Degree in Human Factors/Ergonomics, Industrial/Systems Engineering, Psychology (HF), or related; graduate degree preferred. Proven leadership delivering human-centred outcomes on mission-critical platforms. Strong facilitation, requirements/traceability discipline, and clear technical writing. Comfortable coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and senior stakeholders. Eligible for Canadian government security clearance; able to support shipboard work and travel as needed. Nice to have Professional certification (e.g., CHFP/CPE) or active involvement in HF/HSI communities. Experience on naval surface combatants or similarly complex control environments. Familiarity with applicable naval, regulatory, and human-factors standards and acceptance processes. Why Blumara? Autonomy to set the HSI bar and mentor others. Support toward professional registration (PEng). Flexible hours/hybrid options; competitive compensation & benefits. A respectful, inclusive culture where your ideas ship
