Dual Director of Sales

Position Summary
The Director of Sales is responsible for leading all sales initiatives to drive revenue, grow market share, and strengthen community and corporate partnerships. This role develops and executes strategic sales plans, oversees key account management, maximizes hotel occupancy and ADR. The Director of Sales is a hands-on leader who actively prospects, cultivates new business, and represents the hotel within the local market.
Key Responsibilities Sales Strategy & Revenue Generation
- Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve and exceed room revenue goals.
- Manage account portfolios across Corporate, Government, Crew, Sports, and Leisure segments.
- Identify new business opportunities through proactive prospecting, cold calling, market research, and community networking.
- Maintain an active presence in the local market through sales calls, business visits, trade shows, and industry events.
- Collaborate closely with Revenue Management to align pricing, market positioning, and channel strategies.
Account Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local companies, travel managers, sports associations, government agencies, and tour operators.
- Respond to all RFPs, group inquiries, and corporate rate requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Conduct quarterly account reviews, account development plans, and contracting for key accounts.
- Ensure accurate and timely use of sales systems including IHG's Sales & Catering tools, Delphi (if applicable), and brand-specific platforms.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Partner with the General Manager to develop annual business plans, budgets, and sales goals.
- Lead weekly sales meetings to ensure alignment on sales activities, pace, and performance.
- Work collaboratively with Front Desk, Reservations, Marketing, and Operations to support seamless guest experiences and consistent brand delivery.
- Coach and mentor any sales coordinators or support staff as applicable.
Marketing & Community Engagement
- Represent the hotel within the local community, chambers of commerce, tourism boards, and business associations.
- Support digital marketing initiatives, social media activity, and local advertising campaigns in alignment with brand guidelines.
- Leverage IHG tools, promotions, and partnerships to drive visibility and revenue.
Reporting & Administration
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales reports, forecasts, and activity logs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date information within the CRM and sales tracking systems.
- Track market trends, competitor activity, and demand drivers within Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada markets.
- Ensure compliance with IHG brand standards, local policies, and audit requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of hotel sales experience; experience in Select Service or IHG brands is an asset.
- Proven success managing corporate, government, and group business segments.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of the Nova Scotia business landscape, tourism sectors, and regional market trends preferred.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office and hotel sales systems (IHG Concerto, Opera, Delphi, etc.).
- Ability to travel locally for client meetings, tradeshows, and networking events
