ABOUT THE JOB

The primary objective of the Senior Purchaser is to lead and execute procurement activities that ensure timely, cost-effective, and quality sourcing of materials, equipment, and services required for operations. The incumbent is an experienced purchasing professional who relies on strong negotiation skills, supply chain knowledge, business acumen, and sound judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The Senior Purchaser interacts and collaborates effectively with production, engineering, inventory, finance, and external suppliers, and can work independently with minimal supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Source, evaluate, and procure materials, equipment, components, and services required for daily operations.

· Review purchase requisitions for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project or production needs.

· Negotiate pricing, terms, lead times, contracts, and service agreements to achieve the best overall value.

· Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, monitor supplier performance and address quality, delivery, or cost concerns.

· Identify and qualify new suppliers to support cost reduction, quality improvement, and supply chain stability.

· Work closely with production, engineering, and inventory teams to forecast material requirements and maintain optimal stock levels.

· Analyze market trends and monitor pricing changes to ensure proactive sourcing and risk mitigation.

· Create and maintain purchasing documentation, supplier databases, and accurate ERP/MRP records.

· Work with Finance to ensure accurate coding, timely invoicing, and resolution of discrepancies.

· Investigate alternative materials, components, or suppliers to support continuous improvement and cost optimization.

· Recommend and implement improvements to procurement processes, policies, and workflows.

· Ensure compliance with internal standards, industry regulations, and company purchasing policies.

· Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders regarding order status, supplier issues, delivery timelines, and cost impacts.

· Prepare purchasing reports and support budget development as required.

· Support inventory management efforts, including cycle counting, lead-time optimization, and stock-level analysis.

· Demonstrate alignment with company core values

· Perform other duties as required to support organizational objectives.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

· Strong understanding of procurement principles, supply chain management, and contract negotiation.

· Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and material lists.

· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and vendor relationships simultaneously.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), ERP/MRP systems, and procurement software.

· Knowledge of manufacturing processes, industrial materials, and equipment sourcing is an asset.

· Ability to lift up to and including 50 lbs (if required for job duties).

· Ability to handle confidential information in a professional and ethical manner.

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.

· Strong customer service focus with both internal and external stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory).

· 5+ years of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

· Experience in preventive maintenance sourcing or equipment procurement is an asset.

· Certification (SCMP, CPM, CPPB, etc.) considered an asset but not required.

· Valid passport (if supplier visits or international sourcing applies).

· Bilingualism considered an asset.
