About The Company And The Role*
We are looking for a Technical Director to join our client, a leading player in the nuclear sector, for a major nuclear project based in Toronto, Canada.

*Job Title: Technical Director
Your Roles and Responsibilities
Role Purpose*
The Technical Director provides senior technical leadership and authority for a large-scale site preparation and conceptual engineering scope. The role ensures that all technical strategies, engineering outputs, and regulatory deliverables are consistent with project requirements, applicable regulations, and quality standards.

The Technical Director is accountable for setting the technical direction during planning and definition phases and driving execution during conceptual engineering delivery, ensuring seamless transition and continuity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership & Governance
  • Define and lead the technical execution strategy for all site preparation aspects (permits, earthworks, facilities, utilities, safety, infrastructure).
  • Provide oversight and assurance of integration across all engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with project standards, quality systems, and controls.
  • Regulatory & Licensing Alignment
  • Oversee technical alignment with permitting and licensing requirements.
  • Ensure technical inputs are regulator-ready, traceable, and delivered on schedule.
  • Provide technical justification for licensing and permitting decisions.
  • Planning & Definition Phase
  • Structure site preparation work into logical packages, defining interdependencies and risks.
  • Establish execution framework and contribute to schedule, cost estimation, and resource planning.
  • Validate baseline assumptions through site assessments and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure preparatory studies and plans position the project for risk-mitigated execution.
  • Conceptual Engineering Delivery Phase
  • Direct execution of conceptual engineering activities across all site preparation aspects.
  • Ensure work packages are technically sound, integrated, and support long-term constructability and operability.
  • Oversee progressive reporting and deliverable reviews to align with stage-gate processes.
  • Provide technical leadership to ensure outputs are robust and compliant.
  • Stakeholder & Consortium Interfaces
  • Develop and maintain an Integrated Project Team (IPT) with stakeholders for joint decision-making and technical alignment.
  • Act as senior technical point of contact with engineering, permitting, and project controls teams.
  • Coordinate technical work across international teams, ensuring knowledge transfer and regulatory alignment.
  • Transition & Knowledge Transfer
  • Manage coordination between geographically distributed teams, adapting expertise to local standards.
  • Lead lessons learned activities and embed best practices into the technical baseline.
  • Team Leadership & Safety Culture
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and ensure strict configuration management.
  • Promote continuous improvement and capability development.

*What Profile and Skills Are Needed for This Technical Director Position?
Education*

  • Advanced degree in Civil, Mechanical, Nuclear, or related Engineering discipline.

Experience

  • 15+ years' experience in large-scale infrastructure or energy projects, with leadership in construction readiness programs.
  • Experience in Canada is an asset (ideally already based in Canada).

Skills

  • Proven experience with licensing and permitting frameworks.
  • Strong track record in project controls integration and QA/QC standards.

Languages

  • Fluent English required, French is an asset.
