We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator to manage our bidding process from start to finish. This role is ideal for a senior estimator seeking flexibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to transition into a long-term, exclusive role with a growing contractor.

Role Overview

The Estimator will be responsible for the full estimating lifecycle on commercial and institutional plumbing and pipefitting projects. This includes reviewing drawings and specifications, preparing detailed takeoffs, obtaining supplier pricing, building competitive bids, and supporting tender submissions. The role is project-focused and requires a strong understanding of real-world installation practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents
  • Perform detailed material takeoffs for plumbing and pipefitting systems
  • Develop labour hours, productivity assumptions, and pricing strategies
  • Request and analyze supplier and subcontractor pricing
  • Prepare complete bid submissions, including scope clarifications and exclusions
  • Track addenda, RFIs, and tender updates
  • Maintain and improve internal estimating templates and standards
  • Coordinate with ownership on bid strategy, risk, and pricing approach
  • Support bid close-outs and post-bid reviews

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience estimating commercial and institutional plumbing / mechanical projects
  • Strong understanding of mechanical room builds, piping systems, valves, pumps, and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
  • Experience with takeoff software or Excel-based estimating systems
  • Strong attention to detail and cost awareness
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple bids simultaneously
  • Prior experience with Ontario-based projects is strongly preferred

Engagement Structure

  • Contract / independent role (fractional or retainer-based)
  • Compensation may be hourly, per-bid, or monthly retainer (to be discussed)
  • Initial engagement of 3–6 months, with the opportunity to transition to a full-time exclusive role
  • Estimator will not provide estimating services to direct competitors within the same trade and region during the engagement
