Reporting to the drilling geology supervisor, the geological engineer/geologist will be responsible for short-term drilling planning in their assigned sector. He or she will be responsible for monitoring core drilling, updating mineralized lens modeling, assessing needs and opportunities, adjusting drilling plans according to budgets and schedules established with his or her supervisor, and participating in development planning in support of the mine geology coordinator.

Duties and responsibilities

• Participate in medium-term drilling planning;

• Take charge of short-term drilling planning and adjust models and mining plans as needed;

• Participate in identifying core sample intersections and follow up on them;

•    Model lenses with new information;

•    Interact with the mining department to maximize ore recovery;

•    Interact with the mineral resources department to maximize resource conversion;

•    Establish drilling schedules and communicate requirements to the drilling geologist;

•    Adhere to budgets and deadlines;

•    Plan mineralized developments with the mine geology coordinator;

• Attend daily geology meetings;

• Participate in geology drilling planning meetings;

• Ensure that field work is carried out in accordance with operational guidelines (E3, partner guidelines) and government laws (mining, forestry, environment, C.S.S.T., municipalities, and M.R.C.);

•    Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and rules (and ensure that staff comply with these rules);

•    Perform any other duties related to the position of geological engineer/project geologist that are relevant to the success of the project.

Required qualifications

•    University degree in geology or geological engineering;

•    Member of the Ordre des géologues du Québec (OGQ) or the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ); 

•    Have three (3) years of experience as a geologist/geological engineer.

•    Hold a valid Class 5 driver's license.

•    Be fluent in spoken and written English (an asset).

•    Have completed mining modules and 7 (an asset).

Technical skills

•    Experience in modeling (an asset)

•    Experience in narrow vein gold deposits (an asset) (an asset)

•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, etc.) as well as specialized software such as Datamine, Leapfrog, and Deswik;

•    Good knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to exploration and mining sites.

Basic skills

•    Possess leadership qualities within a team;

•    Be an excellent team player, demonstrating tact and political savvy;

•    Be adaptable and open to change and constructive feedback;

•    Have good organizational skills and the ability to recognize priorities;

•    Be self-reliant, show initiative, and be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;

•    Be thorough and demonstrate ethics and integrity;

•    Have a strong geological understanding of 3D modeling
