The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (GH-CCMH) is a child and youth mental health center integrated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). GH-CCMH is also a member of the Thriving Minds Mental Health Access Collaborative with CAMH and SickKids and a core service provider in the Toronto sector of infant, child and youth mental health services funded by the Ministry of Health (MOH). GH-CCMH provides prevention, early intervention and health promotion services across the city, funded by MOH and other sources. As such, the Centre has an ambitious agenda to provide the highest quality, evidence-based care, offering a range of services from prevention and early intervention to counseling and therapy, assessment and intensive supports. Services are offered in person and in virtual format. We are seeking applicants to fill a full-time contract position as a Communications Advisor. This role will support:
Internal and external communications, including major campaigns and corporate initiatives (reporting to the Senior Communications Supervisor)
Our strategic focus on the development of service pathways between SickKids and GH-CCMH and other system partners, including CAMH (reporting to the Clinical Director, Client and Participant Services, and consulting with the Senior Communications Supervisor).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Working with the Senior Communications Supervisor, and the Clinical Director, Client and Participant Services, you will provide operational support for the development of core communication deliverables.
We require a talented communications generalist who can own the daily maintenance of internal and external communications at GH-CCMH. The candidate will draw on their experience in both writing and graphic design. Overall, they will need to write for different target audiences, including staff, clients/families and program participants. They will use their design skills to create story graphics, lobby screens, and other promotional materials.
The successful candidate will:
- Write and edit posts and staff pages for our internal staff news site, Connections, on SharePoint;
- Edit and lay out monthly staff e-newsletter CCMH Connects on MailChimp;
- Assist with communications requests from leadership and staff, including designing/editing promotional materials using Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva;
- Build strategic communications plans in the areas of pathways and measurement-based care;
- Maintain updates to referral criteria across all pathways programs including SickKids, GH-CCMH, and other system partners that can be communicated internally to staff at both sites;
- Communicate referral criteria to different target audiences, including staff, clients/families, and program participants;
- Support communications from our research and evaluation team;
- Create a weekly editorial content calendar for Centre's X and LinkedIn accounts;
- Maintain a monthly measurement and reporting process for internal and external comms channels;
- Edit, finalize and publish website updates, posts and pages using WordPress;
- Create content for our lobby screens for clients and families using Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva, working with internal and external partners for content;
- Support annual report project (planning, editing, writing, proofreading);
- Photograph staff events;
- Fulfill other communications requests as required.

- Perform other tasks as assigned by management
Effort
- Concentration and creativity are required daily to write/edit and proofread communications, attend meetings (virtual and in- person across sites)
- Sitting at a desk for long periods of time daily (i.e. to use a computer) to perform the duties of the job
Qualifications
- Degree/diploma in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related area is required;
- Minimum of three to five years of writing experience in journalism, internal and/or communications or public relations agency settings;
- Ability to rapidly write short, engaging content for broad audiences, both internal and external;
- Excellent writing, editing and verbal skills with a deep knowledge of CP style;
- Exceptional attention to organizational writing style and branding guidelines;
- Understanding of accessibility needs in communications and AODA compliance;
- Solid knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), social media platforms (X, LinkedIn, Instagram) and MailChimp;
- Working familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Canva, Hootsuite, and Google Analytics;
Solid understanding of design principles and the ability to quickly produce thumbnails and other graphics to accompany a story or promote a service;
Sound decision-making skills and professional demeanour;
- Solid work ethic, including the ability to work independently and take initiative;
Strong interpersonal skills and confidence to interact successfully with personnel at all levels;
Ability to set priorities in the face of converging deadlines;
- Excellent time management and organizational skills;

In addition, the following are considered an asset:
- Experience in a health-care, academic, government, or tech environment
- Knowledge of the Toronto child and youth mental health sector
Working Conditions
- Be able to travel to the Jarvis or Sheppard site for occasional meetings and spend two days a week onsite (at least one day a week at the Sheppard site in designated office space)
- Be available for occasional meetings at SickKids or other relevant locations
