Job Description – Class B Operator (12-Hour Rotating Shifts)

Location: Burlington, Ontario

Employment Type: Full-Time, Rotating Days & Nights (12-hour shifts)

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Class B Operator to join our operations team. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, works well independently, and is comfortable supporting day-to-day plant operations, monitoring equipment, and performing light mechanical maintenance as required.

This position operates on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including both day and night shifts, to support continuous facility operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Monitoring

  • Operate, monitor, and adjust plant equipment in accordance with operating procedures and safety requirements
  • Complete regular rounds and inspections to ensure efficient and safe operation of systems
  • Record operating data, log readings, and report anomalies or equipment issues promptly
  • Support start-up, shut-down, and emergency operating procedures as required

Mechanical & Maintenance Support

  • Perform basic mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting on plant equipment
  • Assist maintenance technicians with repairs, replacements, and inspections
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of mechanical and operating areas
  • Identify and communicate maintenance needs to the supervisor

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all provincial regulations, company policies, and site-specific safety procedures
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and emergency response drills
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health & safety (EHS) standards
  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, and near-miss incidents

Documentation & Communication

  • Complete shift logs, maintenance reports, and inspection forms accurately
  • Communicate effectively during shift handovers to ensure operational continuity
  • Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and maintenance staff when issues arise

Qualifications

  • Valid Ontario Class B Operating Engineer Certificate (as per TSSA requirements)
  • Strong understanding of boiler, refrigeration, or plant operations (depending on facility type)
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and experience with hand tools and mechanical systems
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and situational awareness
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physically capable of standing, walking, climbing ladders, and lifting moderate weights

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience working as a Class B or Operating Engineer in an industrial environment
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs
  • Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, or similar monitoring systems
  • Understanding of TSSA codes, safety regulations, and industrial best practices

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
