Shift Real Estate Management has an exciting opportunity for a Financial Controller to join our team. Reporting to the Managing Partner, the ideal candidate will act as the financial leader, responsible for accurate and timely accounting, forecast and financial analytics functions that provide the team with data-driven insights to strengthen our financial performance and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the execution and oversight of full accounting cycle
  • Timely and accurate reporting for properties, projects, and financial purposes
  • Providing essential financial analytics to various departments to ensure a high level of project and property performance
  • Assist in analyzing the financial feasibility of acquisitions and projects
  • Establish, maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Lead the selection and implementation of software that ties our business lines together
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and strengthen operational efficiency
  • Establishing and tracking key metrics to ensure Shift succeeds in meeting strategic initiatives
  • Financial forecasting and budgeting on a project, property and entity level
  • Become part of the leadership team that drives the business
  • Timely and accurate reporting to financial institutions, investors and other third-party stakeholders
  • Cash flow management
  • Other duties as assigned

Credentials and Characteristics of our Ideal Candidate:

  • Possess a proven track record in accurate accounting and reporting
  • A desire to help take our accounting and financial management to the next level
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with tenants, vendors, team members, and investors.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrate a strong intellectual curiosity and a drive to understand the underlying "why" behind processes
  • High level of integrity where doing the right thing is always top of mind
  • Collaborative team player with a willingness to support broader organizational needs, even when tasks fall outside the typical scope of the role.
  • Completion of a satisfactory criminal record check and a clean 3-year driver's abstract
  • Post secondary education in accounting/finance
  • 3+ years of strong accounting experience
  • Accounting designation (CA, CPA, etc.) is considered an asset
