Communications & Marketing Lead

Type: Full time - 12 month contract with opportunity for renewal

Reports to: CEO

Salary: $55,000–$60,000 (commensurate with experience)

About The Learning Exchange

The Learning Exchange (SJLE) has supported youth and adults in Saint John for over 40 years to achieve their education and employment goals. We offer innovative, learner-centered programs that provide individualized pathways to learning, work, and personal development in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Our impact in the community is significant, but our story is not yet widely known. We are ready to move from being a "best kept secret" to a recognized leader in education and employment space and we are seeking a Communications & Marketing Lead to help make that happen.

The Role

The Communications & Marketing Lead will own and execute our communications and marketing strategy, elevating our brand, amplifying our impact, and positioning, SJLE as a visible, trusted leader in education and workforce development. This role is both strategic and hands on, ideal for someone who thrives on generating bold ideas and turning them into action.

You will work closely with learners, leadership, program teams, and external partners to ensure our voice is clear, compelling, and consistent across all channels.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead an integrated communications and marketing strategy aligned with organizational priorities
  • Position SJLE as a recognized leader and thought partner in education and employment
  • Advance efforts to move SJLE from "best kept secret" to a recognized go to leader in the field

Content & Storytelling

  • Create and execute compelling stories that showcase impact and elevate visibility
  • Translate programs and outcomes into accessible content for diverse audiences
  • Oversee content across platforms including website, email, social media, reports, media, and podcasts

Brand, Digital & Campaigns

  • Steward SJLE's brand, voice, and messaging
  • Lead digital marketing efforts including social media, email campaigns, LinkedIn, and website content
  • Track performance and use insights to strengthen impact
  • Collaboration & Support
  • Collaborate with staff, leadership, and past and present learners to support organizational goals
  • Support and build partnerships, and recruitment through effective communications
  • Manage external vendors or consultants as required

Public Relations & Event Management

  • Creating content and coordinating media announcements. Invite media, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Coordinate photos and/or videos and collaborate with our Social Enterprise, Creative Squirrel Marketing & Design, to create a social media posts

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in communications, marketing, or brand strategy (nonprofit or mission-driven experience preferred)
  • Strong storytelling, writing, and content development skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead ideas from concept through execution
  • Experience increasing organizational visibility and credibility
  • Strategic thinker with a practical, hands-on approach
  • Passion for education, workforce development, and social impact, with an understanding of social issues through a poverty-reduction lens
