Job Description:

Role Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice-President, Client Growth & Solutions, the Assistant Vice-President, Growth and Execution will operate within the Client Solution Centre as part of Sun Life Canada Group Retirement Services. With the North Star to be the lifelong partner that empowers Canadians to own their future and retire with ease and confidence, this role is designed to drive strategic innovation, foster cross-functional alignment, and accelerate growth growth through rapid data-driven experimentation.

This role is ideal for leaders who thrive in fast-paced, high-growth environments and have a proven track record of applying growth tactics to scale products, drive user engagement, and unlock new opportunities.

The Client Solution Centre plays a vital role in supporting group retirement savings plan members to maximize their savings and navigate the path toward financial security and life goals. It combines a team of licensed salaried advisors with a powerful digital platform that enables members to transact, gain insights, and manage their savings through web and mobile channels. In addition to supporting active plan members, CSC operates Group Choices, our flagship offering, that supports members as they transition from their employers—providing ongoing advice and guidance to save and grow toward their financial goals.

In this role, you will define strategies and lead initiatives that unlock new growth opportunities and evolve our Choices products and solutions. You will translate strategy into tangible execution and partner with various functions to realize outcomes. This role is instrumental in scaling our reach and impact, helping more Canadians achieve their financial aspirations.

What will you do?

Strategic Growth & Execution Leadership

  • Lead the discovery, incubation, and validation of new growth ideas and business opportunities using rapid experimentation, A/B testing, and data-driven decision-making.

  • Translate strategy into tangible execution and partner with various functions to realize outcomes.

  • Champion a test-and-learn mindset to explore emerging trends, Client needs, and market dynamics.

  • Monitor the external environment—including competitor actions, market shifts, and emerging trends—to identify opportunities that can fuel growth to identify opportunities that can fuel growth and leverage unconventional tactics to accelerate adoption and engagement.

Choices offering development  

  • Drive the evolution of the Choices offering and value proposition, ensuring alignment with client needs and strategic priorities.

  • Collaborate with product, marketing, digital, sales teams and control functions to shape and launch innovative solutions and services.

Business Strategy & Performance

  • Lead the creation of business-level objectives and key results (OKRs), and collaborate with enabling function partners to align and activate their respective OKRs.

  • Develop and maintain strategic plans that guide the organization's growth trajectory.

  • Establish and track OKRs and key performance indicators to measure impact and inform decision-making with an emphasis on growth metrics such as user conversion, deepening, and retention.

  • Lead efforts in the annual strategic planning cycle and business planning cycle, ensuring alignment across functions that connect strategy to execution.

Internal Communications & Alignment

  • Lead internal communications efforts to create transparency around strategy, enabling teams to align their actions toward common business and client outcomes.

  • Partner with functional partners and senior leaders to cascade messaging and drive clarity across the organization.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Proven experience in strategic planning, business development, or innovation leadership—ideally within financial services or a client-centric organization.

  • Expert-level analytical and business modelling skills, with a strong command of data analysis and interpretation.

  • Experience in growth, digital marketing, or product-led growth, ideally within a startup or technology-driven organization.

  • Demonstrated success in designing and executing rapid growth experiments, leveraging analytics, and scaling products or services in high-growth environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage complex data sets to uncover insights and translate them into actionable, strategic recommendations that drive business outcomes.

  • Solid understanding of wealth management, with experience supporting clients in achieving long-term financial goals through tailored advice and solutions.

  • Strategic thinker who can zoom out to see the big picture and zoom in to manage executional details with precision.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities, solving problems, and driving innovation through creative, low-cost, high-impact tactics.

  • Exceptional communication, presentation writing and storytelling abilities, with a talent for engaging diverse audiences, especially senior management

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence at all levels.

  • Passion for client-centricity, innovation, and driving meaningful impact.

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
