We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are Making Sustainability Happen.
As our new Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.
Role
SLR Canada is looking for a highly motivated individual with excellent technical, communication, and interpersonal skills to play an important role on our Mine Waste Engineering team. The successful candidate will be a client-focused professional and possess experience working with clients to develop technical scopes of work, prepare proposals, and successfully manage and deliver projects, meeting SLR's high standards for quality and client service. Ideally, you'll have experience in identifying, developing, and pursuing business opportunities, as well as in providing mentorship and staff leadership within the geotechnical team.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate within multidisciplinary project teams to provide specialized tailings and mine waste geotechnical expertise, integrating geotechnical findings with inputs from hydrotechnical, environmental, and mine planning disciplines to deliver practical and compliant design solutions.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients and internal teams.
• Demonstrate sound engineering judgment, risk management, and leadership in addressing geotechnical and operational challenges related to tailings storage facilities (TSFs), water dams, and mine waste structures.
• Provide hands-on project management, including the development of technical work plans, design memoranda, reports, and project specifications; lead and coordinate site investigations, laboratory testing programs, and geotechnical analyses supporting tailings design, construction, and dam safety reviews.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and contracts, ensuring quality, efficiency, and compliance with client and regulatory requirements.
• Support SLR's financial performance and health and safety leadership
• Mentor junior staff, providing guidance and assisting in their development

Here's what else you'll enjoy as part of our team:
• Competitive total compensation package including comprehensive benefits, vacation, and a suite of wellness initiatives
• The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location
• Full-time, permanent role with opportunities for professional growth and advancement
Qualifications/Education/Memberships:
• Minimum 8 years of experience in geotechnical consulting with a strong focus on mine waste and tailings engineering, including design, operation, and closure of tailings storage facilities (TSFs) and related mine infrastructure. Experience with geotechnical characterization and material behaviour of tailings is considered a strong asset.
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering, with a Master's degree with a focus on tailings management, dam engineering, or mine waste design is preferred.
• Proven ability to plan and manage geotechnical and mine waste projects, including site investigations, laboratory testing and interpretation, slope stability and seepage analyses, drainage and foundation design, dam safety reviews, and geohazard assessments.
• Ability to work within multi and interdisciplinary project teams for opportunity development and project execution
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligibility for registration within the relevant jurisdiction.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to mine sites and remote project locations as required.
