Salary: $1,984.18 to $2,429.01/ bi-weekly ($51,787 - $63,397/year)
Alberta Infrastructure designs, builds, manages, and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, and collaborates with other ministries to ensure that schools, hospitals and government facilities infrastructure meet the needs of Alberta's population. The Ministry also provides accommodation services and manages a large portfolio of owned and leased facilities while maintaining fiscal accountability and optimizing value for Albertans.
Role ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Facilities Coordinator, the Maintenance Service Worker is responsible for performing general maintenance duties related to the operation of various buildings within the jurisdiction of the Facilities Manager for the Calgary Correctional Spyhill Complex.
The incumbent will interact with clients for the purpose of providing or receiving routine information regarding their needs as well as providing general labour activities at Spyhill Complex (Calgary Correctional Centre, Calgary Remand Centre and Calgary Young Offenders Centre) as needed. This includes working in close proximity to inmates.
Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performing general maintenance tasks and activities including:
o Completing work orders in a timely and efficient manner
o Moves of and repairs to client furnishings
o Painting
o Repairs to equipment
o Lamp replacement
o Unclogging toilets
o Cleaning and completing caretaking in various locations and reporting unusual conditions observed to the Facilities Coordinator
- Assisting trades by:
o Working with hand and power tools
o Performing semi-skilled work
o Ordering and picking up material and supplies
- Providing direction to contractors through:
o Meeting and escorting them on site
o Inspecting the work of contractors (in some instances)

Required:
- Some high school education.
- One year of related experience.
- Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of building systems.
- Physically able to perform the manual duties of the position.
- Willing and able to work in a correctional facility and in close proximity to inmates.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year education.
