About Roots & Tales

Roots & Tales is a multidisciplinary mental-health clinic dedicated to supporting children, youth, and families through psychotherapy, developmental, and cognitive interventions. Our team brings together psychotherapists, social workers, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists to create integrative, evidence-informed care.

We work with children and adolescents who experience learning challenges, ADHD, anxiety, executive-function difficulties, and emotional regulation concerns. Our therapeutic model draws from developmental psychology, cognitive science, and psychotherapy, helping clients strengthen both emotional awareness and cognitive flexibility.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO) or Registered Social Worker (OCSWSSW) with training and interest in developmental and cognitive aspects of psychotherapy. The role involves providing individual psychotherapy to children and youth, integrating an understanding of attention, working memory, flexible thinking, problem-solving, and self-regulation into the therapeutic process.

The ideal candidate is curious about the ways cognition, emotion, and learning intersect , and passionate about helping young clients build self-awareness, insight, and adaptive strategies within a relational and developmentally attuned therapeutic framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one psychotherapy to children and youth with learning, attention, and emotional-regulation difficulties.
  • Formulate individualized treatment goals using a cognitive-developmental lens that considers both emotional and neurocognitive processes.
  • Help clients strengthen executive functioning, metacognition, and reflective thinking within psychotherapy sessions.
  • Integrate principles from psychodynamic, CBT, and neurodevelopmental frameworks.
  • Collaborate with Roots & Tales' multidisciplinary team (OTs, SLPs, educators) to support whole-child development.
  • Maintain clinical documentation and participate in case discussions, supervision, and professional learning.

Qualifications

  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) with CRPO or OCSWSSW.
  • Master's degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, or a related mental-health discipline.
  • Experience providing psychotherapy to children and/or adolescents.
  • Strong understanding of cognitive and executive-function processes (attention, organization, working memory, emotional regulation).
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities, ADHD, and neurodevelopmental profiles.
  • Training or interest in integrating cognitive, developmental, and emotional frameworks.
  • Reflective, collaborative, and growth-oriented clinical stance.
