Position Summary:
Phase I Compost is the important first step in the mushroom growing process, creating the compost - the living soil that contains the nutritional elements necessary to grow mushrooms. Loader Operators utilize specialized farm equipment to mix the raw ingredients together that the mushrooms will eventually grow in.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates and maintains farm machinery and equipment including, but not limited to Front End Loaders
- Ensures daily maintenance of fluid levels and cleaning of equipment
- Dips wheat straw bales in recycled water and then stacks them to sit for 6-7 days to heat up and soften the straw
- Puts straw through the bale break line
- Ensures addition of DPW (chicken manure) and water and then puts the mixture into a Bunker
- Responsible for flipping the compost every 3-4 days into another bunker, mixing and adding more water
- Washing/cleaning and proper maintenance of all Wharf equipment and premises
- Maintains strict hygiene at all times
- Operating dump trucks to dispose of stems and spent compost
- Driving wagons to move compost to filling rooms, as needed
- Performs any other duties that may be assigned as required
Qualifications:
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must have 3 years of experience operating a loader
- Loader Certificate is an asset
- Prior experience or training in the operation of heavy equipment
Training:
- Onsite certification is provided
