About the Role:
The Northern Alberta YMCA is looking for a candidate to work as a Yotuh Employment Counsellor to work towards strengthening their community and providing resources to diverse and vulnerable populations. The Employment Counsellor will provide direct service delivery to participants and is responsible for the effective planning, implementation and evaluation of participant services. The Employment Counsellor will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse populations who face unique challenges, and external service providers and community partners who are involved in their participants' lives.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a support to participants; assist them with the development of job readiness skills and tools, follow their progress and support participants within YMCA guidelines and adhere to the contracted performance outcomes.
- Perform case management as per Standards of Practice guidelines and funder mandates.
- Engage with employers, community agencies, and other organizations to maximize services and resources to individuals seeking employment.
- Develop and implement career and employment related programs.
- Complete administrative tasks such as but not limited to; inputting data into program designated database systems, maintaining participant files in accordance with funder and YMCA guidelines, in an effective and timely matter.
- Collect necessary data to contribute and assist in developing reports.
- Plan and work within an approved budget.
- Visit potential employers to promote program and potential workplace placements
Qualifications:
- Post secondary degree/diploma in Social Work, Human Services, Career and employment counselling or related fields.
- Intermediate (Standard) First Aid, CPR-C.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification preferred.
- Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector.
- 2+ years experience in job development/marketing and employment counselling.
- Working knowledge of issues/practices related to the social determents of health, individual assessment, case management, group work, group facilitation, program planning and outcome evaluation.
- Working knowledge in culturally sensitive and trauma-informed practice, and strength-based approach.
- Ability to handle confidential information and sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, databases and other technology.
