Reports to: Manager, Youth Services
Location: Hamilton, ON
Hours of Work: 0-14 Hours / Week
Start Date: TBD
Posting Date: November 14th, 2025
Coordinates the meaningful engagement of community members and 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. The Check-In Coordinator is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with Speqtrum participants, and supporting check-in staff. Successful candidate will work collaboratively in-person with the YWCA Hamilton's Safety and Support Hub.
· Monitors participant database and facilitates matching process between check-in staff and participants
· Completes weekly check-in and peer support shifts as needed;
· Ensures all modes of contact are available and used (i.e.: phone, online messaging, email, etc.);
· Support the design and implementation of prevention and early intervention programs targeting gender-based violence and healthy relationship building for 2SLGBTQIA+ young people;
· Researches and understands trans and queer affirming services in the Hamilton area;
· Provides 2SLGBTQIA+ youth with community resource information and helps build connections to services;
· Meets with service providers and/or community stakeholders when needed;
· Follow up on referrals in a timely manner, including but not limited to connecting to service providers, available resources, administering emergency funds, tracking emergency funds spending, etc.;
· Maintains accurate records/statistics and evaluation information in accordance with YWCA Hamilton's procedures, and confidentiality/privacy policies
· Maintains a high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client, employee and contract information;
· Works safely, reports all workplace hazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures;
· Participates in mandatory organizational and departmental trainings and meetings;
· Provides recommendations to strengthen existing policies or processes;
· Provides regular reports and updates to Program Leadership when required;
· Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships;
· Understands emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards;
· Supports Speqtrum and YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
· Perform other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Works 0-14-hour work week; regularly on-call rotation for emergencies, crisis situations and resourcing issues;
· Must be able to work outdoors; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold;
· Work schedule may include days, afternoons, evening and weekends based on program needs.
Qualifications
· Lived experience with 2SLGBTQIA+ and/or BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) communities is required;
· Experience working with trans or disability communities an asset;
· Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to work from an anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework/practice;
· Knowledge of social media/outreach/graphic design skills is an asset;
· Knowledge of Hamilton's 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and Hamilton resources preferred;
· Must have current Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost;
· Experience designing program curricula and facilitating group activities;
· Ability to motivate and encourage participation from participants, while respecting limits and boundaries;
· Committed to creating spaces for ALL 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, and can identify and mitigate barriers to participation, such as racism, ableism, classism, etc.;
· Must be able to lead and work from a feminist, anti-racist / anti-oppressive perspective for operations and strategic planning;
· Ability to work an in-person schedule including days, early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends based on program needs;
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
· Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and also work effectively in a team;
· Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
