Camp Director

The JoooKooo Sports Academy provides students with opportunities to be physically active while developing social awareness, teamwork, and a drive to reach their full potential. Our programs are safe, inclusive, and fair — with basketball as the core focus — and enriched through multisport experiences such as robotics, arts and crafts, and other engaging physical activities.

Position Overview

The Summer Camp Director is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and successful execution of the JoooKooo Sports Academy Summer Camp. This includes managing all aspects of camp operations — from program design and scheduling to staff leadership and camper experience.

The Director will ensure that camp activities are engaging, well-organized, and align with JoooKooo's values of excellence, inclusion, and fun. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills to create a dynamic environment where both staff and participants thrive.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of camp programming, including multisport sessions, robotics, arts and crafts, and special theme days.
• Develop and manage weekly schedules, staffing plans, and activity rotations.
• Ensure each day of camp runs smoothly, safely, and according to established objectives.

Staff Management

• Recruit, train, coach, and supervise camp counselors and support staff.
• Assign staff to camp groups, assess strengths and compatibility with age groups, and provide continuous performance feedback.
• Conduct staff evaluations and maintain up-to-date staff files, ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.

Camper Experience

• Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-energy atmosphere for all campers.
• Monitor camper engagement and well-being throughout the day.
• Identify and address behavioral or social challenges proactively.

Parent & Community Communication

• Communicate clearly with parents and guardians regarding registration, schedules, and updates.
• Address concerns promptly and professionally through email, text, or in-person interactions.

Operational Oversight

• Maintain accurate attendance and enrollment records for staff and campers.
• Ensure all equipment and supplies are organized, available, and in good condition.
• Enforce all camp safety protocols and monitor the health and safety of campers and staff.
• Act as the primary problem-solver for staff or camper issues, demonstrating sound judgment and leadership.

Other Responsibilities

• Execute additional activities or duties as assigned by JoooKooo Sports Academy leadership.
• Be available to travel between our Ajax and Bowmanville locations as required.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership experience in a camp, sports, or youth program setting.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate, guide, and develop a diverse team of counselors.
• Creative and adaptable approach to building engaging, multisport programming.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
• CPR/First Aid certification is an asset.

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 3 months

Pay: $18.00-$23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
