Functional Statement:
Newcomer Child and Youth Connections provide newcomer children and youth, ages 5 to 24, with a continuum of services to support their settlement, education, health and well-being, and social integration. The NCYC Coordinator provides administrative and collaborative leadership to support the NCYC Manager in overseeing the children and youth settlement programs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage Program Quality
- Ensure programs balance activities to engage children and youth in educational, social, recreational, inclusive and integrative ways
- Assess gaps between available services and client needs; provide input into program development
- Support the coordination and effective use of resources and equipment
- Respond to program inquiries and referrals; coordinate the intake and assignment of new clients for NCYC
- Support in program delivery when needed (ie. Homework club, recreation activities, field trips, etc.)
Communication & Collaboration
- Work with other newcomer serving agencies to build and maintain referral mechanisms that support the transition of clients to external services
- Develop and cultivate partnerships with youth-serving agencies
- Promote the integration of NCYC children and youth services to ensure that the team is connected to each other and the rest of RIS programs
- Support employees by facilitating internal communication and meetings
- Prepare monthly activity calendars with input from staff
- Research, develop and maintain a list of services and resources available to newcomer youth
- Represent NCYC in committee and partnership meetings as directed by NCYC Manager
Reporting and Records Management
- Update and monitor client contact database and client service log
- Review and update intake forms, needs assessments, orientations, evaluation tools and program materials
- Ensure that client files are kept up to date and confidential
- Coordinate and train staff on client management systems (ie. iCARE)
- Monitor monthly iCARE data entry and contribute information for program reports and monthly updates
Support Program Staff
- Assist NCYC Manager in training and mentoring new staff members, practicum students and volunteers in the area of program delivery, monitoring and guidelines
- Coach, monitor and support staff in program development, implementation and evaluation
- Assist staff in planning logistics for ongoing activities, events and field trips
- Supervise program staff and activities in consultation with NCYC Manager
Qualifications:
- Post‐secondary education with related experience in a relevant field, e.g. Children and Youth Programming, Newcomer Settlement, Business Administration
- Knowledge and understanding of the settlement sector, the refugee experience, and the strengths, barriers and challenges of newcomer children and youth
- Experience working directly with newcomer children and youth
- Strong communication and relational skills with children, youth, families, team members and organizational partners
- Experience in youth program design, development, implementation and administration
- Proven ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary and multicultural team environment and the ability to coordinate and direct staff
- Familiarity with community youth programs and general government services; ability to outreach to and partner with mainstream and settlement services
- Proven team leadership skills; ability to mentor staff and share leadership responsibilities with NCYC Manager
- Strong organizational and digital data management skills
- Superior computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to successfully manage human resource issues and organizational dynamics
- Fluency in another language other than English is considered an asset
- Strong written and oral English communication skills
- Driver's license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends as required

Our team of multicultural counselors provide settlement assistance in over 90 languages.
