JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director, Site Operations, the Recreation Therapist Supervisor develops and delivers recreation and leisure programs and services at Central City Lodge by providing therapeutic recreation and leisure interventions that address the specific needs of residents either one-on-one and/or in group settings. Participates in a collaborative team process with referring physician(s) and other medical professionals to develop comprehensive care plans that support the mental, physical, social and spiritual well-being of residents. Performs detailed assessments and planning, creating and coordinating the delivery of individual recreation care plans. Evaluates, interprets and documents initial and revised goals and outcomes, monitors responses to individual and group interventions, and maintains records to evaluate effectiveness of interventions. Provides work direction, supervision and training and orientation to program coordinators and volunteers delivering recreation and leisure services at Central City Lodge. Supports the development of policies and standards and participates in quality improvement initiatives. May be required to transport residents between the resident and other locations by operating a passenger or wheelchair access transport van as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation plus one (1) year of recent related supervisory experience.
- Eligible for membership with the British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association.
- Valid Class 4 vehicle license is required.

DUTIES:
- Plans, develops and implements therapeutic recreation and leisure programs and activities that enhance the health and quality of life of residents at Central City Lodge. Works collaboratively with referring physician(s) and other members of the care team to ensure one-on-one and group interventions are coordinated and working to improve the well-being of residents.
- Screens all referrals for appropriateness of treatment. Conducts assessments of residents' needs, interests and abilities and identifies any issues or problems. Develops and implements individual and group therapy activities and programs to address residents' physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, care plans, and progress notes. Monitors and documents resident's behavioural, emotional and functional responses to recreation and leisure interventions according to established guidelines. Reviews therapeutic care plans, consults with other members of the care team to adjust plans based on the resident's progress and changing needs. Reports on resident treatment progress to appropriate medical professionals and outside agencies as required.
- Provides supervision and work direction and monitors the work of program coordinators and volunteers. Schedules and assigns work activities to meet operational needs, evaluates and adjusts accordingly. Monitors and evaluates resources (e.g. staff, equipment, and time) to ensure the effective utilization and delivery of care. Provides input into recruitment and selection of staff, monitors their progress and performance, and identifies any training needs. Conducts orientation for new staff and volunteers as required.
- Provides instruction and supervision to practicum students including providing evaluations and feedback on their progress, demonstration of equipment, and information regarding work methods and processes.
- As a part of a multi-disciplinary team, attends and participates in appropriate multidisciplinary conferences, discharge planning conferences, medical rounds, service /department meetings, and family meetings to ensure integrated planning and care. Communicates effectively with residents and their families regarding therapeutic goals, progress and outcomes. Serves as a liaison between the recreation therapy program and other healthcare professionals or community resources.
- Participates in Quality Assurance and Improvement activities including reviewing and evaluating recreation therapy programs and services through data collection, resident feedback, etc. Supports the development of policies and processes that comply with established therapeutic recreation practice standards and organizational mission and values.
- May be required to transport residents between the residence and other locations by operating a wheelchair access transport van or passenger van as required.
