Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.

Position Overview

Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact in youth mental health care? Join our team as a Young Adult Mental Health Worker in the Youth Supported Living Program, where you will provide essential support to youth aged 17 to 21 who are experiencing various psychiatric challenges. In this role, you will play a key part in teaching life skills and facilitating activities that promote independence and self-sufficiency.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary support team to assess clients' psychosocial rehabilitation needs and support their independence in both home and community settings. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, teaching/assisting daily activities such as cooking, cleaning and budgeting, providing transportation to key appointments and facilitating community integration. Additionally, the role involves maintaining detailed progress notes, collaborating with healthcare professionals, and continuously monitoring clients' well-being — including recognizing and responding to mental health emergencies when necessary.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position must possess either a Mental Health Diploma or Certificate, a Degree in Social Services or related field, or a combination of relevant education and experience. Additionally, they must have a minimum of one year of experience working with vulnerable populations most notably youth and young adults. An unrestricted Class 5 Driver's License, access to a reliable vehicle for business use, and a valid Level 1 First Aid Certificate are required. Relevant lived experience in a similar service setting is considered an asset.

The successful incumbent would have a strong understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation practices along with exceptional organizational, time management, and general management skills. They must demonstrate a commitment to a problem-solving approach and exhibit proficiency in written, oral and interpersonal communication. The ability to work independently as well as a part of a team, prioritize tasks effectively, meet deadlines and handle sensitive issues with discretion is essential. Managing time-sensitive and emergency situations in an ever-changing environment is an ongoing expectation of this role.

This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
