Catholic Social Services is currently seeking a full-time, 40 per week, Child & Youth Care Worker in EDMONTON to join our Safe House program. Providing excellent client-centered care, you are confident, thoughtful, and motivated to achieve success when supporting others in your community. This position has a weekly schedule of: Monday to Friday on a rotation; Week 1 - three evenings (2:00pm -10:00pm/1:00pm -10:00pm or 3:00pm -11:00pm), two days 7:00am - 3:00pm/8:00am - 4:00pm; Week 2 - two evenings and three days same mix as above. Program Overview:The Safe House program is a short term residential group program for high risk youth that have been exposed to substance, physical and mental abuse, sexual exploitation, physical/mental trauma, etc. This program supports youth to reduce their involvement in high risk behaviours using harm reduction principles and practices including circle of courage philosophy, strength based and resiliency focused assessments, which promote empowerment and stabilization. With counselling and support, youth work on developing skills to manage the high risk activities while working on personal goals in hopes of stabilizing and transitioning to a long term residential program.Job Summary:As a Child and Youth Care Worker, you will be responsible for assessing the needs of the youth, goal planning with the youth, providing counselling and teaching basic life skills, while ensuring basic needs are met (food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, safety). The Child and Youth Care Worker creates a safe, warm and positive environment where youth feel welcomed and loved. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: Managing a caseload of 1-2 youth and collaborating with their support teamDeveloping and overseeing service plans for youthSupervising and supporting youth in a residential settingAssisting youth to develop positive and healthy relationships with their supports and their communitySupporting youth through life skills teaching and in-the-moment learning, with a hands-on approach while ensuring you are "meeting the youth where they are at".Assisting youth in attending appointments Submitting required program documentation with established time-framesPerforming basic housekeeping and meal preparation dutiesOther duties as requiredWhat This Job Requires: A Diploma/Degree in Human Services (or equivalent)A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with youth from a harm reduction, strength based perspectiveExperience with youth in care, residential care, and case management is a requirement of this position.Certification or training in Aboriginal Awareness, Abuse Awareness, Standard First Aid, Medication Administration, and Violence/Crisis Intervention is a definite asset.The ideal candidate will have an organized and compassionate approach to the work, strong teamwork skills, a commitment to developing positive supporting relationships, and experience supporting vulnerable youth. Other qualifications include:Proven ability to provide effective communication, collaboration, crisis intervention, and conflict management with youth Experience with or willingness to be trained on physical holds on the individuals that we serveNonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI) must be completed upon hireDemonstrated assessment, problem solving, and critical thinking skillsKnowledge of the PSECA legislation is also an assetKnowledge of community resources is an assetIntermediate competency with Microsoft Office and other Agency computer applicationsDemonstrated ability to act with professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacyProven case documentation and effective information reporting practices2 years of Driving Experience will be an asset.Police Information Check including vulnerable sector search, and Intervention Record Check current within six (6) monthsPolice Information Check including vulnerable sector search, and Intervention Record Check are conditions of employment and the financial responsibility of the candidate.What We Offer:The salary for this position is $ $27.24 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
