Job Description
The Department of Internal Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba and the St. Boniface Hospital are seeking a clinician-scientist (MD or MD/PhD) to fill the above "Heart & Stroke, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, and Research Manitoba Chair in Women's Clinical Heart Health Research." The Chair is designed to provide salary and/or operating funds to pursue independent research in the study of Women Heart Health, which is a priority of the Department of Internal Medicine and the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at St. Boniface Hospital. Major areas of research include: i) Population health, outcomes research, and health policy; ii) Translational research and identifying novel diagnostics or therapeutic targets; and iii) Fundamental studies in basic cardiovascular biology in health and disease including bioinformatic approaches.
Candidates must have a strong track record in cardiovascular research in the study of Women's Heart Health appropriate to their career stage, as reflected by publications in high impact journals and peer-reviewed salary or operating funding from national granting agencies. They must have teaching experience and a strong record of mentoring trainees. They are expected to foster the training of clinicians and scientists and to promote and strengthen research interactions with other clinical and basic researchers within and outside the Department of Medicine.
This is a contingent position at the Assistant, Associate or Professor rank commencing July 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter, for a term of five years. Salary and rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Cross appointment to a basic science and/or clinical science department is possible, and some restricted clinical activity to ensure a clinical profile is desirable, but a minimum of 50% time devoted to research will be expected. This position is open to both internal and external candidates.
A successful MD or MD/PhD applicant must have Specialty qualifications in Adult Cardiology in the country of current practice and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Certification in Adult Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred.
There are presently 40 full-time academic cardiologists within the Section of Cardiology with major clinical and investigative responsibilities in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography and magnetic resonance, nuclear cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, palliative care, and heart failure and cardiac transplantation.
