Position Overview

Life Enrichment (Recreation) Director

The Life Enrichment Director at Calvary Place is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading a comprehensive recreation and leisure program that supports the physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our residents.

This role provides leadership to the recreation team and volunteers, promotes person-directed care, and ensures programs reflect the diverse needs and interests of the elders who call Calvary Place home. The Director also coordinates fundraising initiatives that enhance the quality of life and daily experiences of our elders.

Qualifications and Skills Required for This Position

  1. I am a graduate of the Bachelor of Recreation Studies program, the Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults program at Red River College or its equivalent is required or equivalent education and experience. Preference is given to graduates of a Bachelor of Recreation Studies or a combination of training and experience.

  2. I have at least three years of leadership experience in recreational programming and am knowledgeable about the principles and philosophy of long-term care with leadership abilities/initiative to effectively co-ordinate all activities and services within the department.

  3. I am certified in volunteer administration (CVA credential) or have equivalent experience.
  4. I have credentials in fundraising and event planning or am willing to further my education or have equivalent experience.
  5. I have experience in leading within a unionized setting and working with labour contracts.
  6. I communicate with well-developed written and verbal communication skills. I can fluently read, write and speak English. My ability to speak a second language would be considered an asset.
  7. I demonstrate empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care and service to our elders.
  8. I interrelate well with others and establish positive relationships with elders, their families, other staff members, volunteers and the public.
  9. I can adapt quickly in a progressive change-oriented environment.
  10. I work independently and can evaluate my own progress and take responsibility to grow in my position.
  11. I can manage the associated physical, emotional and psychological demands of the work involved.
  12. I have a general understanding of computers and associated Microsoft programs required in the everyday work of the director.
