Job description
The Process Engineering Specialist is a strategic technical leader responsible for driving and maintaining world-class manufacturing efficiency and quality. The incumbent directs the full lifecycle of process flow development, from initial quotation and cost analysis through final implementation and qualification, all while adhering to lean principles. This role champions continuous improvement by leveraging advanced tools like AI and data mining to optimize equipment utilization and foster a culture of innovation, mentoring colleagues, and ensuring effective cross-functional collaboration on all new programs and engineering changes.
Strategic Planning & Process Development
• Plan, direct, and oversee activities related to the development, application, and maintenance of the process flow required for product manufacturing.
• Identify necessary process flow and equipment within the manufacturing operation for all Requests for Quotation (RFQ).
• Oversee the development of all new or revised products and processes, including all Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities.
• Develop standards and written documentation for the qualification of all processes to align with organizational requirements.
• Create and develop part priority sheets relative to product manufacturing.
Cost Analysis & Efficiency
• Understand, define, and develop accurate cycle times, investment requirements, and tooling costs, addressing these requirements with a full lean manufacturing mindset to minimize waste.
• Advise and assist the facility in efforts to reduce product and service costs through innovation and continuous improvement activities.
Continuous Improvement & Compliance
• Implement corrective and preventative actions, including investigation, communication, documentation, and verification of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing pertinent issues.
• Report the progress and shortfalls of process engineering responsibilities to facility management for review and assist in improving corrective actions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership
• Work closely with Purchasing, Quality, Sales, Operations, Materials, and Engineering departments on the development of new programs and engineering changes.
• Act as a teacher/mentor and "subject matter" lead to create and foster a "learning organization" culture throughout the facility for all related manufacturing processes and newly created processes.
Education and Experience
• University graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3 to 7 years of relevant experience.
o Experience in the automotive manufacturing sector is a definite asset.
• Excellent knowledge of manufacturing processes, CNC programming, auto CAD, combined with the ability to read and write specifications.
• Strong proficiency with MS Office, and in particular Excel.
