Key Responsibilities

As a key member of the project team, the CET will be responsible for a broad range of technical and field-based duties to support daily construction operations and ensure compliance with engineering and safety requirements.

Field and Technical Oversight

  • Perform daily site inspections to verify that all work meets approved drawings, specifications, and municipal standards.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain comprehensive daily construction reports, including details on labour, equipment, weather, production quantities, and site activities.
  • Update and manage as-built drawings, inspection logs, and test reports to support project documentation and closeout requirements.
  • Assist in preparing and tracking RFIs (Requests for Information), change notices, and progress claims, ensuring accurate and timely communication between field and office teams.
  • Record and quantify materials, volumes, and progress for payment verification and cost control.
  • Compile and submit detailed project reports summarizing progress, testing results, and any issues requiring management review.

Coordination and Communication

  • Liaise daily with site superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and municipal inspectors to coordinate work activities and resolve issues.
  • Support the Project Manager with scheduling, material tracking, and construction sequencing.
  • Ensure all parties are informed of design updates, scope changes, or construction constraints that may impact the project schedule or budget.
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to maintaining a strong safety culture on-site in accordance with TACC's ISO 45001 Health & Safety Management System.

Project Support

  • Assist with project startup by reviewing drawings, verifying control points, and preparing layout plans.
  • Support project closeout by compiling documentation packages, test results, and as-built data for client submission.
  • Provide technical input and recommendations during design review and pre-construction planning phases.

Qualifications

  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation in good standing with OACETT, or eligible for certification.
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • Minimum 3+ years of civil construction experience (preferably in roadwork, sewer/watermain, or site development).
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, construction practices, and municipal standards.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience using surveying instruments (total station, GPS) is a strong asset.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills with a proactive and detail-oriented mindset.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for travel to project sites across the GTA.
