  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions, including governance practices and approaches to health and well-being

  • Awareness of federal and provincial government policies and their impact on Indigenous health, as well as knowledge of federal and local Indigenous health programs

  • Proven experience in health services or academic environment

  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to\: generate ideas that create value and improve processes; practice and apply systems-thinking; create a unifying vision; manage and deal with uncertainty; implement new role(s)

  • Strong communication skills particularly in writing complex information to all levels of internal staff and external organizations to address sensitive situations, resolve conflicts, motivate, negotiate and persuade

  • Knowledge and understanding of Ontario's health system

  • Ability to engage in collaborative processes including consensus building

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills

  • Project management and prioritization skills, and the ability to lead initiatives from conceptualization to implementation

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to build trust to influence outcomes

  • Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills

  • Advanced computer application skills including MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook

The Health Equity and Human Rights team manages strategic initiatives to advance health equity, Indigenous Health and inclusion across the organization, system, and multiple programs. The team engages with Indigenous communities and equity deserving groups to amplify their perspectives and needs in key decision-making processes and program planning. We work to build collaborations and partnerships across the organization and community to further create a culture of inclusivity and belonging.

Monday to Friday, Days

The Manager of Indigenous Health is responsible to lead, inform, and advise on the planning, coordination and implementation of practices and processes across to improve Indigenous cultural safety, and to advise regarding the development of organizational-level changes to create culturally safe learning, working and patient care environments. The Manger is responsible to lead the planning, , implementation of transformational, organization-wide strategies, policies, practices and programs including the development of comprehensive proposals and submissions that will support HHS and the local community. This role will lead the continuation of the development and implementation of an Indigenous strategic Health Plan for Hamilton Health Sciences to support the improvement of care pathways that will improve wellness, culturally safe care and health outcomes for Indigenous persons receiving care at HHS. The Manager engages in extensive consultation with interested parties at all levels within the organization as well as across HNHBB hospitals and with Indigenous community members.
