A Graduate Assistant (Research) will support the SSHRC-funded project Stronger Together: Envisioning a National Community of Practice on Graduate Supervision.
The intention is to provide two consecutive GA units (224 hours), with work ending in mid-summer, provided performance during the first GA appointment is satisfactory. While the position is formally based on the Lethbridge campus, applicants from the Calgary campus are equally encouraged to apply.
The primary responsibilities are to:
- Lead the development of a scoping literature review focused on communities of practice and interdisciplinary professional development within the context of graduate supervision.
- Design and execute comprehensive search strategies, including keyword selection, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and database selection.
Duties include:
- Sourcing, reviewing, synthesizing, and mapping scholarly literature into a clear academic report of 25–40 pages, complete with tables and figures that highlight emerging patterns, theoretical gaps, and pedagogical possibilities in the literature.
- Regular draft submissions (every 3 – 4 weeks), with APA 7.0 citation formatting, and engagement in iterative peer review are essential. Complete draft submission by June 2026.
- Collaborate with the principal investigator and research team to refine the review's methodology, align with the project's theoretical frameworks, and ensure conceptual clarity.
- This role requires critical thinking, scholarly writing, and a commitment to inclusive educational practices.
- This role includes supporting knowledge mobilization efforts and preparing content suitable for academic dissemination or policy dialogue.
- From the academic report, generate a list of best practices and recommendations for communities of practice in general, and for graduate supervisors in particular.
- From the scoping review, generate an infographic and brief slide deck for knowledge dissemination.
Qualifications:
- Enrolment in a graduate program at the University of Lethbridge.
- Relevant knowledge of and/or experience in developing scoping reviews.
Review of application files will start on February 1st. The position will be open until filled.
