We are seeking a versatile and skilled candidate who is looking to become, or is a registered Apprentice Electrician, to join our dynamic team. As an Apprentice Electrician under the guidance of a Journeyman Electrician, you will be responsible for a wide range of interdisciplinary tasks where your knowledge of fabrication, testing, and installation of electrical power distribution and control systems will set you apart. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in various electrical systems and at least 2 years of manufacturing and maintenance experience in the field. A positive attitude, willingness to learn and commitment to a safety culture will set the candidate apart.

Typical projects at Rail Shop Services can include:

· Fabrication of custom equipment, ranging from outfitting a sea container with insulation, lighting, power distribution and control equipment, to prototype equipment fabrication, testing and troubleshooting.

· Fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning of electrical control panels, which may include PLC panels, VFD control panels, power distribution panels, motor control centres (MCCs), HMI operator panels, junction boxes, control stations, and network/communication panels.

· Installation, calibration, and repair of electrical systems and components for automation and facility operations.

· Conducting preventive maintenance tasks to ensure safe and reliable operation of electrical equipment in rail and municipal infrastructure settings.

Responsibilities:

· Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams, and electrical code specifications

· Cut, bend, thread, and install conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings

· Pull wire through conduits

· Install, replace, and repair electrical control equipment such as relays, sensors, actuators, and panels

· Troubleshoot and resolve faults in electrical systems

· safely perform all job functions while abiding by applicable company policies and government legislation and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

· Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.

· Currently a registered electrician apprentice.

· Experience wiring PLC panels is a strong asset.

· 2-3 years of hands-on experience in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, or repair of electrical systems is an asset.

· Knowledge and experience interpreting drawings, diagrams, schematics, and specifications

· Knowledge and experience using and maintaining hand/power/specialty tools and testing equipment.

· Knowledge and experience interpreting and applying Canadian Electrical Code and STANDATA.

· Knowledge and experience with electrical theory, circuit fundamentals and electronics.

· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

· Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

· Commitment to safety culture.

· Willing and able to travel within Canada, USA, and Mexico (possess a valid passport and Class 5 operator's license).

· Fluency in Spanish or French would be an asset.

· Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

· A background check is required.

· Once the applicant proceeds to an apprenticeship, they are expected to provide their own hand tools.

Assets:

· Computer and smartphone literate.

· Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution and control systems with the ability to interpret drawings, schematics, diagrams, and specifications.

· Experience with PLC or other panel fabrication, testing, and troubleshooting.

· Experience operating forklifts, loaders, overhead cranes and equipment common to industrial shop environments.

Schedule / Travel:

· Based in Edmonton shop Monday to Friday, usually 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, with overtime as required.

· Approximately 30% site work, which may require overtime, weekend work, and site presence for up to two weeks at a time.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Apprenticeship

Pay: $18.65-$26.11 per hour
